Feeding 🍼

Is anyone else's baby a milk monster!? My baby is 2 weeks old and always wants more! We pace feed and wind throughout, try distract him afterwards and soothe him but he just screams until he has that little bit more (not all the time). We have been told he requires no more than 2-3 oz for his weight. He is always hungrier at night and our witching hour is from around 11pm-3am. He may be worse at night because I can't breast feed as me and my partner share the night in 6 hour shifts for our sanity! If anyone has similar experience please let me know how you're managing it xx

My little girl is a week old and also very hungry. We have been giving 3 oz every 3 hours as she has jaundice so needs to feed to flush it out, she will mostly always drink this, at night she doesn’t want to go more than 2 and again feeding is one of the only things that settles the witching, when we feed her it’s like she is starving. Don’t want to over feed but also don’t want a hungry baby. I find the advice so conflicting too about feeding on demand and a constant worry of overfeeding 😭. I don’t have any advice I’m afraid but wanted to let you know you’re not alone!

Aw thank you for sharing! The conflicting information from midwife's, HV and feeding team is driving us mad. They say it's responsive feeding but it all kind of has consequences whether it's bad wind reflux or stretching the stomach so he will need more too soon. We just want what's best for him but prior to now he has had a few little choking episodes on his reflux while sleeping and we were told it was likely due to the volume of what was in his tummy, so I'm terrified of over feeding or him not being able to independently manage his reflux. He's getting better but still sicky and the guzzling doesn't help that either 😂 they mentioned feeding little and more often but I wish they knew my boy and how he would not let us rest if he wasn't finished 🤣 xx

Hello, my little boy is very hungry too. I am expressing and giving formula as I'm not able to get enough milk for all feeds. Theodore can go anything from 2 hours to 4 and half hours. I use formula for the daytime, and that's 90ml and then breast milk for night feeds, which are 80ml. He is sometimes sick and sometimes not, but there is no pattern with that. Xx

My little girl is 4 days old and is on 3oz every 3 - 4 hours!!! But she was 9lb 5oz 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️ xx

Thanks for your comment! Sounds like it's more common than not. I bet there are many hungry babies! We went to see the feeding team and they said it sounds were doing what we should and it's ok to BF then top up with formula if needs be, but you never know how much they're getting it's really hard xx

I'm not BF but formula feeding, and even that is hard work cause sometimes she'll have a good amount, and other times, she turns away. Every time me and my husband eat, she wakes up at the smell of the food 🤣 I think she's gonna be eating a roast dinner this time next week 🤣 xx

😂😂 .. well thank you for commenting I feel a lot better about it all xx

We have just upped our 2 week old to 4oz of breast milk every 3 hours. He was hungry and it was hard to keep him at 3oz as long as we did. 4oz seems to settle him and he's straight off to sleep. We stop regularly and wind throughout too. I had a greedy first baby and met a very pragmatic gp who told me babies are very very good at self regulating their milk intake...if it's too much for them they'll just bring it back up so I haven't been as anxious about what baby "should" have this time round x

My 2 week old is on 5oz bottles 🤣midwife had no problem with it xx

I hate medical professionals that put a limit on how much a baby needs. Your baby is telling you a need and that need is that they are hungry! Feed them what they want. If they are full or had to much they will refuse the bottle or spit up. My baby was at 5-6 oz at 4/5 weeks and has been steady at that amount since. Also when they are going through a leap they sometimes eat more then go back to normal.

Our doctor always says make the baby whenever he wants, if he wants more than 3 ounces give him more every kid is different!

We are 3 weeks today and doing 4oz every 4 hours. We bottle feed formula. Honestly we allow our kids to have as much as they want as long as they don’t puke (means they had too much). If they can keep it down they can have it. Also cluster feeding peaks between 2-6 weeks as they go through lots of growth spurts normally late night. We have a schedule we follow just changed to 4 hours from 3 a day or so ago thanks to daylight savings. We bedshare using safe sleep 7 till after 6 weeks. Start them in the next to me after a feed but will bring into big bed if fussy to let everyone sleep. Worked for our first and so far works for our second. It’s a rough first month or so then we gently sleep train following babies cues. Never had a sleep regression with our first and slept through by 10 weeks. Praying the same is true of our second 🥰 I would just find the middle ground of what baby wants and what you need for your sanity.

Same here!! Loving all the comments of similar situations too lol. My hungry boy has between 3 and 4oz anywhere between 2-4 hours. No strict schedule yet as only just over 2 weeks old so just feeding on demand really. Using formula as he has jaundice early doors and wasn’t getting enough from me but I am pumping twice a day and giving him that too. You are not alone 😂! I’m just giving him what he is telling me he wants!! Xxx

Thanks lovely @Joanna xxx

Aaaw can't believe u got this sleepsuit from Matalan. Been deciding between this and Pooh the bear 😃 Got the Pooh

They always say a baby at X age needs X amount but every baby is different and I just fed my LO as much as he wanted. He was having 4oz bottles from around 2/3 weeks old which according to midwife’s was a lot but it’s not. Sometimes he would have the whole bottle sometimes only 2oz. You know your baby best so I’d just feed as he wants
