@Bonnie thanks so much for sharing that! Helps to know someone has experienced it. Did your son become very swollen? If so, how long did it take to go back to normal?xx
We had this and I felt dreadful! Was always led to believe that boys don't get UTIs and thought we must have done something wrong! For us it was only a few weeks ago and he's been fully potty trained since May so wasn't anything to do with potty training. I was really panicked, asked the doctor a million questions about the cause and if it was something to do with cleanliness or if he had been injured down there and the doctor said that sometimes it still just happens in boys and didn't indicate anything at all. He is really really bad for seeing needing the toilet as an inconvenience when he's busy playing though so I do think he holds it! The only thing I can think of why he would've got it was slight dehydration and us not telling him he has to go for a wee (he can wee on demand, thankfully, so maybe we got a bit slack asking him)
He screamed every time he weed and asked for the toilet every 10 minutes or so, was heartbreaking 😭 he was swollen too, he wanted sudocrem on which we did (around the swelling, not anywhere near the hole) and think it was more of a placebo effect than actually helping but his antibiotics kicked in really quick! He woke up saying he felt much better, and his swelling gradually went down about 24-36 hrs after starting on the antibiotics
@Adele that’s really reassuring to know someone else has experienced it and similar worries about whether I missed something. I also didn’t really hear about boys getting them. So glad to hear he felt better quickly after antibiotics and swelling visibly improved. Hopefully we see the same thing over next 24 hours or so. It’s just so horrible isn’t it and there is always something new to worry about!
Hope he feels much better soon!! And yep! I think it's worse when they're poorly at this age too and still desperately trying to be well enough to play 😭 no one prepares you for this!
@Adele thank you 😊 I know, it’s so hard. They don’t know it’s good to rest up and don’t fully understand why they feel rubbish!
I’ve just had to take my boy to the drs and it showed an infection. My dr said it was very uncommon to get. My boy is still in nappies though we tried potty training the other month but he just wasn’t ready. He can be bad at drinking sometimes so maybe that could have caused it I don’t know. Hope your boy is ok now x
@charlotte sorry to hear your little boy has got an infection too. I hope he gets better soon. Good to know it can happen before potty training too so maybe it’s just one of those things, not related to potty training. I did think my boy had been drinking a little less so I’ve been constantly reminding him to drink more since he got the infection so could be linked x
Aw thank you he’s doing a lot better now. I didn’t really think not drinking could bring on infections, I have ready they can be hereditary and I am plagued by them so maybe that could be why x
This happened to my boy when we first toilet trained. He’s dry day & night now and we’ve only ever had that 1 infection. I have no idea if it’s linked or not just wanted to let you know that someone else has experienced the same 😊
