Hyper mobility syndrome (double jointed)

Hi has anyone else’s toddler been diagnosed with hyper mobility my 21 month old has been diagnosed I was always worried why they were not hitting their gross motor skill milestones on time he has recently started to walk with the walker but he is still not yet able to stand confidently on his own. He has been placed on the physio waiting list. If anyone could suggest any tips and ideas it will be greatly helpful x

My son is 20 months old and he has it also. He can walk with things, but still isn’t confident on his own. We have some firm ankle boots which help keep his ankles stable whilst walking. He is under physio and they mentioned keeping him active will help to strengthen his ligaments and that he will walk, it will just take a little longer than other children 🙂

My daughter is almost 21 months and has quite severe hyper mobility. I was also worried for such a long time as to why she was so late crawling and not walking. Physio didn’t give much input aside from encouraging lots of standing activities whilst holding onto a surface or kneeling to play. From physio we got referred to orthotics who have got her some special little shoes to help align her posture properly and she has very recently started walking short distances with the help of these. The best advice I could give is that if your local services have long waiting lists, give them a call and ask for an email you can address your concerns to, this helped us get seen much quicker which has ultimately led to speedy improvements in her mobility - I know how difficult it is watching them struggle and fall behind so sending lots of love & luck to you both x

My daughter is also 21 months old and hyper mobile, she was late to crawling and standing, she will now happily stand and cruz along while holding on to surfaces but still can't walk. You can see her little ankles are so unsteady. We were referred to physio early on and they suggested lots of standing activities to strengthen the supporting muscles. Both the health visitor and physio have been really happy with her progress so say it's only a matter of time until she walks....so she'll get there ☺️ they all will x

Thank you everyone for your kind messages and suggestions it’s really nice to hear from other mums going through similar struggles and yes our little champs will all get there in their own time x
