Is it just me?

We just got referred to Speech therapist and the first thing she tells us which is like what everyone tells you like speak to your child describe everything you’re doing and I just feel like dude if that worked I wouldn’t be here right now so like it annoys me he’s learned sign language which I feel would be hard to learn if there were any other issues.

I'm dealing with the same thing, they said my little one understands everything but he just doesn't talk so now we have to deal with the speech therapist too.

Maybe try another speech therapist. My sons speech therapist has been working with him for about 3 weeks now and although he’s not saying full sentences he’s saying a lot more than he did before and she gives me notes on what to work on at home and the exercises they did during his session.

It sounds like she doesn’t feel like doing what her job entails…which is to be a speech therapist and not a parenting coach….

I stopped going to mine, mine was for sensory issues and tho we still have them, idk how our therapist was even considered a therapist

Idk if it’s just because we’re just starting it so she’s feeling it out or if it’s because it’s on zoom but like bitch you don’t think I’ve tried doing that like give us a new idea here 😭 idk maybe it is just time

@H yeah if it’s zoom then I would suggest you find someone who does in person sessions. My son’s speech therapist goes to his daycare for his sessions. We saw how hard it was for kids to learn on zoom during the pandemic. It would definitely be hard for a 2 yr old

also got referred to speech therapy at my 2 yo’s well visit, it’s been about 3/4 weeks and haven’t been called to schedule anything yet and my son is already talking twice as much as he was at his appointment and pointing/waving, doing almost everything that he wasn’t at the time lol

@Jasmine yes I was a little nervous but decided to continue just in case it did teach me something new. FTM and definitely not experienced enough to notice or differentiate certain things. But we definitely talk, read , repeat words so her telling me that just feels so redundant I thought she would be helping with like mouth muscles or placements or something 😅idk

I want to go to another one but they're all booked up in my area. I believe it works for sure but just like anything else, gotta find the right one.

@H yes my son’s therapist has a sort of Ms Rachel approach where she teaches him signs to go with the word. Today he handed me his cup and said water for the first time

It’s possible it’s just bc you’re starting. When I started mine said the same thing and I confirmed I was doing that but the actual therapy following that was soooo helpful for my son!

Thank you ladies for sharing 🫶🏽

@Kyra yes same in my area and that’s why we were referred to a virtual one

i started speech therapy a month ago and I honestly hate how the therapist is practically for me and not my daughter. they specifically told me that she is a speech coach to parents and teach the parents instead of the kids I'm all like what? i can literally just watch videos and teach myself i dont need somebody to come to my house and tell me what to do rather then bring hands on with my child

My son is also in speech therapy and they told me the same thing! They basically told me that speech therapy was to show me what to do but I already do everything they say I should be doing. My son is super smart he just doesn’t want to talk. Unfortunately everyone in my area has a waiting list so he’s only had one appointment in like 5 months. Hoping to get a call for someone soon.

Damn that sucks! Our hasn’t told us that but I wish they would I’d happily respond to that. But today she told me to just continue signing two word combos and see how that works since it’s his strong suit. But she didn’t do much 😭 but we already do that so idk I guess we just wait? Idk he drools a lot tho! For being two I thing it should have definitely gone away
