There's a great book called Oh Crap Potty Training which has a really great program that we followed. It breaks potty training up into blocks of progress. As you get each block down, you advance to the next. It uses the naked from the bottom approach. Pick a long weekend and don't plan ANYTHING. Just stay home and work on getting really good at the basics. Don't ask your child if they need to go, prompt them to try every 20-30 mins initially until they can learn to consolidate their pee. Toddlers are just not good at checking in with their bodies. I hope this helps!! We've been daytime potty trained since the end of July and we still have accidents now and again. Just know this will be an ongoing process for a while and hang in there!
I’m still working on it with my son. I’ve been bad about being consistent so that probably doesn’t help. I’ve done diaper less for a few hours until I get sick of cleaning pee lol. I usually have my son sit on the toilet to try to pee right after we wake up since I’ll already be changing his diaper. Then if I’m feeling ambitious I’ll leave the diaper off and then ask him if he has to use the potty every so often. He’s started to tell me he needs to go but we still heavily rely on the diaper. If you’re not able to do diaper less for too long I’d suggest changing diapers in the bathroom and offering the toilet each diaper change to start
Thank you guys! This advice really helps!
Can you share what type of toilet is good to buy for toddler?
@Heba We have tried a lot and just a heads up, you are probably gonna end up buying a couple potty solutions. 😅 The one he most prefers is the Summer Infant My Size Potty Pro. It seems to be comfy for him. We also have a big one with attached stairs that fits over the toilet in a dedicated bathroom, he sometimes decides he wants to use a big potty, but also sometimes wants nothing to do with it. 🫠 We also have a travel potty for the car and a foldable seat adapter that goes over full seats for while we're out and about. I've also heard really good things about the Baby Bjorn comfy potty chair. We've been talking about getting yet another potty for the other side of the house because sometimes when he has to go it's just too far to make it to the other potty.
I would keep them in diapers till you get a couple successes, just add potty into the routine, put them on first thing in the am, after meals, before and after nap and before bed, you'll get it try not to stress
