Slow leaking amniotic fluid

Has anyone experienced slow leaking amniotic fluid? What was your experience? How much did you lose/see in your knickers over the course of 24 hours? I’m 34 weeks & having a hard time figuring out if it’s amniotic fluid or something else! Calling midwife this morning but if you have had experience with this I’d be grateful to hear 🙏🏻

I had this & woke up in the morning thinking I’d peed myself as my pants were wet. I got changed and went back to sleep and the same happened again and then I soaked through a pad and then it stopped so I thought my waters had fully went (if you can keep a pad then they’ll test it to see if it’s amniotic fluid so keep one in a bag if you can!) I got taken in the following morning at 8am after going to maternity assessment and then confirming my pad had amniotic fluid. I was due for an induction on the Friday afternoon anyway so it got pulled forward to the Thursday morning (so waters leaking 4am Wednesday, checked at 9pm Wednesday night, went in for induction 8am Thursday, induction started 3pm Friday and gave birth 3am Saturday). They tried to let me wait and kept me monitored from 8am on the Thursday until I was taken for my induction on the Friday as my birth plan stated I didn’t want an induction (will continue in another comment)

I walked around hospital loads but baby didn’t want to come out so when I went to labour suite at 11am Friday they checked and I was 3cm dilated but my water hadn’t fully went so I had what’s called a hind rupture of membrane so they popped my waters (best feeling ever and it was a lot more than I thought it would be. If you think you’re leaking defo call as you are at higher risk of infection after 24 hours and will need monitoring but I think they can still usually wait to see if you go on your own in the ward as long as you’re low risk but my induction was very positive despite not wanting one but if you are getting hormone drip I’d recommend being open to the epidural and asking about it early. Good luck and hopefully baby is here soon!! 💗💗

i had this from 34 weeks with my second, my waters started trickling, went up multiple times to check but they just kept telling me it was probably wee or discharge, so i kept trying to push it to the back of my mind. from then, i was up the hospital non stop because my little girl wouldn’t move besides one or two kicks or an evening which was completely unlike her. at 38+6 they decided to induce me the following day because baby girl was still not moving properly. i was 3cm and waiting for my waters to be popped, was on the ward waiting from monday morning until wednesday night where i luckily went into active labour without being induced. my baby hadn’t moved all day and they weren’t happy with her heart rate but still decided to leave me to it 😠 they then they discovered my waters had been leaking this whole time and i had developed chorioaminonitis, which is a very serious infection of the waters/placenta and that is why my daughter hadn’t been moving. i’m extremely lucky she is

with us. it could very well just be discharge or wee but please if you feel deep down there is something more going on, do not let them convince you otherwise without all the proper care! xx

@Shan thank you for sharing! How many weeks were you when this happened to you? And was it constantly leaking or did you have some hours in between when it didn’t feel so wet?

@Alexis oh I’m so sorry you went through this - I can’t even imagine the worry you must have been feeling every day! Did they not test your fluid to check if it was amniotic fluid?

it’s okay, honestly my first babies afterbirth was way worse 😂 but thank you. they didn’t to begin because they would do a speculum on me and see discharge and pass it off as that because there would be no pool of water, but i also didn’t fill a pad at all, like even if it was on for hours, it would only be the slightest bit damp because the trickling was so so slow, the fluid was completely clear but had like a sweet spermicide smell to it until it turned infected and then it was awful! i also wasn’t having a constant trickle, it was more when i was in certain positions like sitting on the sofa or carrying my toddler etc. they only tested me around 37 weeks because i was still coming up complaining but it actually came back negative! it’s such a weird thing and i don’t blame them as it did kind of sound like maybe i was just leaking urine but it just happened to not be the case. hopefully whether they’ve gone or not, i hope you have a safe delivery when baby decided to make an exit!🩷

If you think it could be your waters please phone triage. I had the same around 34 weeks. I had a gush. I went up and they tested it and said it wasn’t. It could just be more discharge but it also could be waters x

My midwife told me to keep an eye out for this. But she also said she had this happen to them at 18 weeks and with extra appointments to keep an eye on her she managed to keep her okay till 34 weeks. Xx
