Blood tests?

My baby had to have blood tests at 6 weeks and I won’t lie to you, it was horrific but it was more because medical urgency so I don’t think it was as controlled or calm as yours would be! I got my husband to hold him when they were doing it because I couldn’t face it and I’m very glad I did! Is there anyone that can go with you?x

My little boy had one last week, I was expecting it to be a heel prick blood test however they he had it from the inside of his elbow and his hands. He had multiple blood tests taken over a day, but the main thing I would say is try and push for the numbing cream/spray if you can. He had one with the numbing cream and 2 without and the one with the cream massively helped-he still was really upset, but was much better. It’s not nice, and they do get really upset (as did I 😅) but typically it is over quickly, and try to bring as many distractions as you can, I played the bluey intro over and over on my phone as he loves the music and they gave him sugar water. I also had my partner there so he could hold him and I tried to distract him, which I preferred. I hope it all goes okay with your baby! X

My girl had allergy blood tests at 8 months old If baby doesn't have eczema you can use Elmer cream to numb it We wasn't able yo due to eczema and they did struggle to get her veins and she only really cried at being restrained but they allowed me and her dad in with her

My LO had one, and like an above poster said- see if you can push for numbing cream or similar. They gave my LO some sugar water and it did nothing. While it was horrible to watch, he got over it very quickly, he had stopped crying within a minute or two of it being over - actually quicker than some of his jabs! I'd maybe prepare yourself for it to take longer than you expect, I thought it was going to be like a jab but it took a while to get enough blood. I was able to touch/cradle him throughout and then comfort him as soon as it was done. The doctors who did ours were very good with him and tried to distract and soothe him too. While it's not nice, you will be surprised at how quickly they're back to just playing about like nothing happened. And my bubba loved the plaster! I hope it all goes well, you're doing this for their health which is the most important thing xx

My LO was born with hypothyroidism so has to have blood taken every 3mnths now (after the first every 2wks when he was newborn 😭). I won't lie, it's not nice for them or for us but if you get a good doc/nurse it's over so quickly and they forget all about it. I sit my son sideways on my lap with the arm they want facing out so you can cuddle and give kisses, he buries his face into me and cries so much and as soon as it's over I calm him down and then BF. I hope it goes okay and you get some answers - remember that's why you're doing it!!

My baby had about 5 or 6 in the early days due to suspected congenital hypothyroidism. It’s not the most pleasant thing of course but it’s over quickly and now they’re older it’s easier to get blood. He was 2 weeks when they first tried and it was awful but will be fine now x
