Behaviour in nursery versus home

My LO is very chatty, bubbly, uses sign and some basic words at home. But it seems that in the nursery he is very quiet. Today I noticed that when asked a question in the nursery, he'd just stare at the person and not respond to them. He wouldn't have done that at home. Does anyone else have this with their 18month olds? Not sure why the difference in behaviour

Maybe he was just a bit tired, or behaving differently because you were there? Did you ask the staff whether he’s normally like that while he’s there? How long has he been there?

He's been in nursery for 7 months now. Staff say he's quiet and they have to encourage him to participate in activities (and then he does, and he enjoys it) they say it might be he is less confident. They get surprised when he is chatty in the nursery!

It might just be in his nature that he’s different in a busy, noisy environment. If he generally seems happy to be dropped off at nursery then it probably doesn’t signal an issue.

Probably because you and home are his safe space. He feels comfortable being himself. Whereas at Nursery, you his protector; aren’t there. He feels less comfortable. But I’d be a little confused too if he’s been there for 7 months and there’s no member of staff he’s grown to like. Maybe change his environment if you can? A smaller nursery with less children?
