Bringing baby home

My neighbour is picking me up from the hospital but doesn't know how to strap the car seat in. I've offered to do it the night before I go in, but I wondered if baby can be carried out of the hospital without the seat? My husband has always been on hand to do it so I've never needed to ask

Can you not show her a few times before hand? I don't think they allow you out unless in a pram or car seat. Just show her or stand by her whilst she puts in in to make sure your happy with it

I think you either have to have a pram or car seat to take baby home. Show her a few times beforehand. If you know when you're going in, you could put it in the car ready beforehand

I was just at an antenatal appointment and I saw a couple walking out with a baby in their arms and then put it in a car seat in the car park.. but I can imagine the rules on this vary between trusts so it’s safer to be able to bring the car seat inside to be sure. Like others have suggested, it’s worth running through it with your neighbour a couple of times over the next few days x

We were asked how we were travelling home and when we said car we had to bring the car seat in and she had to be seen in the car seat safely then we were escorted to the door of Maternity unit. Differs between hospitals though I think. They're pretty self explanatory but I would show her the seat or show her how to strap it in. X

I never got asked with my first. I don't think there's a problem carrying the baby.

I think they let you leave once the baby is in a car seat ready to go that’s what happened with my hospital maybe it depends you should check nonetheless
