Safer sleeping

My 17 month old just climbed out of her crib for the first time…she mainly just upset herself and she’s fine now. But what I need to know is where do I go from here? The mattress sits as low as it will go, both sides of the crib are the same height so turning it won’t make a difference, and she’s been able to remove her sleeping bag for months so that’s not helping to keep her contained 😅 Do I just put her in a big girl bed now and lock the door at night? Ive read that she’s not meant to be doing this until shes about 2-3 but shes the size of a 2 year old so it makes sense

yep time for a toddler bed. mine did the same at 16 months. safety proof the room and put a lock/gate on the door

@Abby thanks so much. I didn’t want to do it if it was too early, but I’ll swap it tonight and see how we go. Wish me luck!

Locking the door is a fire hazard. You could put a baby gate on the door, or just restrict access to other rooms/stairs. Also make sure any cords are inaccessible, window coverings, blind cords etc are dealt with, furniture secured to the wall, etc.

@GMF good point, thanks for the advice!

That’s when we moved to a toddler bed. I just made sure she didn’t have access to anything that was unsafe and left her door cracked. She actually never left her room at night but would play occasionally until she got used to it

You can also put a guard rail on the bed to stop her rolling out if she’s Likely to do that

Yeah get a floor bed. Put the mattress on the ground and get a toddler lock on the door
