C-section shelf

Hi everyone, I’m 9 days post c-section and have a definite shelf/overhang. Is this normal this early on and is just swelling or am I unlucky and it’s here to stay?

Your body is still recovering from a major surgery! Don’t worry too much for now, my swelling finally went down fully after maybe 2-3 months. After that I’m doing light scar massages to help with the overhang/tightness. Mines nearly gone but they say a woman’s body could take up to 2 years to recover! 🤯 stay strong mama!!

I had the same from early on, still have at at 9 months unfortunately 😩 i think it's where they've cut slightly high. In my case, i think if they had cut slightly lower, i would have been fine 🤦🏼‍♀️😩 everyone is different though so fingers crossed yours improves in time. 🙏 x

From my own experience the shelf is there to stay, it's the way they've sewn you back up. Depending on your body shape though and particular exercises and massage treatments, you might be able to lose the overhang x

Unfortunately the thing that determines if you’ll have a shelf if based on your surgery team & where your incision was placed. I didn’t feel like I looked normal til I was 14 months pp, my period came back 5 months post emergency c section even tho I was ebf

9 days? Honey tummy doesn't go flat overnight. I'm 8 months PP and still there. Definitely improved overtime and now it's improving more with diet, but, and this even depends on your kind of body and shape you have before, overhang doesn't disappear alone, need to work on it with diet and exercise. Your body has to get rid of the excessive weight and water retention, swelling and other things and this will be your body job in the next few months. Then you can start with a diet if you like and as soon as you are feeling ready, you can exercise (it took me 6 months to even think about starting exercising again). But you can start walking as soon as 15-20 weeks pp if you feel ready. Take it easy though, there is time for everything. Recovery first, then the rest.

I had the same for the first 2-3 weeks and was worried, but after that it completely went away. I’d say it’s too early to tell
