We got a small climbing gym that he uses and hasn't seemed to want to climb on the coffee table. He does like climbing on the couch and also has been known to climb the storage boxes. I just tell him they aren't for climbing and redirect him to the little gym.
At one point for our oldest we had a wooden square coffee table in her room that was very wide but also pretty short. It touched the end of her bed and side of the changing table. We let her climb all over it. We didn't have the money to buy a indoor gym for her so the coffee table made due. In the living room we had a large coffee table/dog cage that was hand built. She could crawl inside but not on top because of the TV.
My daughter lives to climbs but we done let her climb on furniture. I just redirect her and tell her exactly that, that furniture isn’t meant for climbing. But there are plenty of other things in the house, boxes (she can climb onto couches and chairs etc since that’s meant for people to sit on) and we have stairs and plenty of parks near us for her to climb things.
@ᏗᏒᎥᏋᏝ🧜♀️ oh I love this idea!
So we actually moved our coffee table out of the living room, so my daughter had more space to play and bought her a pikler triangle set to let her explore her climbing ability
