Just hold him. Calmly say his name to try and wake him up My sister had them really bad when she was younger and that’s what we did. There’s really nothing you can do. Just try your best to wake him up but doing it calm and turn like a small light on. Let him know you’re there ❤️

@Halie he just sat up in bed screaming with his arms straight out in front of him and he was shaking so bad. Makes me feel so bad🥺

I feel like that is so young to have night terrors. Is it possible there is a medical issue behind this? I get night terrors are a thing but typically from things they see earlier on tv or YouTube etc or worries they are carrying with them from school or home life. My baby is 16 months too 🩷 this sounds so sad. But yes I agree with holding him, saying his name and maybe giving him warm milk.

I saw your previous post about your husband joking about your house being haunted bc your monitor was sensing motion. Eekkk creepy. Maybe you or your husband sleep in your baby’s room with him for a few nights and see if anything is waking him. Good luck

My son doesn't, but I've had them for years. Just hold him and love him. If it eases your mind at all, I've never remembered a night terror. It basically just feels like a really strong adrenaline rush afterwards.

@Allison nightmares are more likely from things you've seen. Night terrors are a true parasomnia. They are in themselves a medical issue and when he's older, if he doesn't grow out of it, there are medications that help. 16 months is young, but unfortunately a common age for them to start

@Allison night terrors/nightmares are very common is children 16 months to 4 years of age.

Great info. I know about them but didn’t know onset was that early for some. Hopefully he grows out if that’s in fact what he has. Sounds like it but to be safe maybe his mom could mention to to his pediatrician at his 18 month appt

@Allison my son sleeps in our room when my husband works midnights which he is on midnights right now, so my son is in his pack an play in my room right now. He sleeps perfectly fine in his own bed. I figured out that it was light reflecting from the window that was making the camera go off

I also want to note he has sleep apnea

@Nicole yeah, just pick him up and comfort him the best you can. Mostly every baby goes through it. No medical issues behind it, just bad dreams and things happened throughout the day maybe. If he’s watching tv before bed and a certain part scared him or someone yelling. It can be literally anything mama💓 he will get out of it eventually

You know I was gonna say sleep apnea.. hopefully you get some clear answers and you and baby sleep well It sounds like his body was waking him up to breathe.

My 16 month old has them as well. She’s not shaking, but definitely waking up and screaming to the top of her lungs. She’s always been a crib baby and never slept with me. I’ve noticed the only nights she sleeps through the night is when she sleeps with me now but I don’t want to create that habit. Here looking for answers as well

My oldest used to get them a lot. He never remembered in the morning, but in the moment it is quite scary. I found the trigger would be when he was overtired or overstimulated during the day. Like if he skipped his nap or we were out and about or traveling all day with lots going on, those were usually the nights he would have night terrors. It’s hard now since he’s so young, but as he gets older if you can find ways to calm his nervous system, that’s what seemed to work for us.
