Elective C section Liverpool Women's

Has anyone requested an elective c section and had their meeting with the consultant yet? I have just been doing some reading about hospitals in the UK and some of the comments on the thread say that you can request a private room or even pay for your partner to stay overnight. Has anyone had this experience?

Don’t know of any hospitals where you’d have to pay for your partner to stay… news to me! I work in a North East hospital and partners can just stay and be there for support… all hospitals here offer the same

@Clare the partner can stay for the 2/3 nights that we maybe in? Xx

Depends on the clinical situation (wellness of you and baby) but generally, you have an elective c section one day, and home the next. Not a lot of people need a 2/3 night stay. Generally, it’s just assumed you’ll have your partner staying for support, never known anyone put a charge on it 🤷🏼‍♀️

It might be worth speaking to your midwife directly as different trusts have different rules; I believe some don’t allow (or at least don’t encourage - so your partner would just have a chair, for example) overnight stays on labor wards. Quite often I think partners choose to go home for a night to be rested for supporting on post-partum care also! Separately I’ve seen people posting about private rooms costing anywhere between £100-600 per night, so again might be worth doing some digging with your midwife to get the information 😊

Thanks for your replies, I have a teams meeting with the consultant on Wednesday so I will ask then. My midwife is out of area from the hospital I've selected @Jess so she can't answer any questions. 😭

We weren't able to pay for a private room or have my husband stay last year. It was awful. I got no sleep and had no help from 8pm until 8am when he could return. I'm dreading doing it again next month.

@Anna oh no, were there no midwives to help? This is what I'm scared of!

@Abbey I kept asking for help. I ended up in tears and having a massive nosebleed by 5am and they finally took baby for an hour m, so I could sleep. They were so understaffed. I'm having baby on 23rd December this time, so I'm worried about Christmas staffing 😕

@Anna is it another c section you are having?

@Abbey yes. I'm hoping for a better experience.

@Anna fingers crossed and I'm sure you will 💖
