@Katherine I have been so scared these past days , would check this out now.
Take the key out the door and get a top door chain
Hide the key. Our son would do this too. Xx
My mom had a door sensor for my dad, who had Alzheimers. Every time the door would open, it would make this pleasant charm sound.
Anything that he canโt reach.
As already mentioned , take the key out and put it away so it's out of reach
My son did it a few times a couple of months back too and the feeling is scary! He would open the garage door though ๐ซ. We ended up putting a door chain for the door leading to the garage and itโs helped for now, atleast. I like the idea of a door alarm.
Our kid started doing the same until we got the keys out of reach. Have you tried that? Otherwise install extra locks. He is unlikely going to be able to open them all at once.
Get a lock on the top that he canโt reach
Key chain is a must. Take the key out every time and put a key chain on the door. Even if your toddler opens the door, the chain will prevent him from fully opening it!
Definitely put the key high up out the way once you lock the door, we have an RFID key locker about light-switch height in our home so theres no way little ones could reach to open and pull keys out ๐ณ This is so scary though having them get out the house when your not looking for a moment ๐ญ
@Amie we had these for clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities who eloped and they were a nice extra layer of safety
My door only locks from the outside as it has a slide clip on the inside that just locks automatically. I just ordered for a Door Sensor after reading all of your comments. I am glad I am not the only one who has had this experience as I almost thought myself as an irresponsible mum. Reading your comments has put my mind to rest . It truly takes a village xx
Aside from the alarm, adding an extra lock would prevent it from opening.

@๐พ๐๐ค๐๐๐๐ the locks I saw involves drilling. Do you have any recommendations I can check please
Drilling vs a toddler running away? What do you prefer? Any lock that needs a key to open from the inside will work. Now if you want to fix it without drilling, go to a hardware shop or have. Look on amazon and see what they can offer.
@๐พ๐๐ค๐๐๐๐ I finally got the extra lock sorted . All your comments and suggestions did put my mind to rest . Thank you xx
Great ๐ My toddler would grab a stool to open the door. So the keys need to be completely out of sight.
@๐พ๐๐ค๐๐๐๐ mine uses piles of cushions and I just wonder how they get so smart at such young age

Home security reinforcement door locks. We put ours up top of the door so thereโs no way she can reach it. Also you need an alarm on the door- look on Amazon
