Showering with Stitches

Does anyone know when I can take an actual shower and use soap in my area? I feel like I haven’t showered in months🤮. I’m one week postpartum and I have 9-16 stitches. The doctor never told me when I can shower, just to use the Perri bottle and pat dry.

The doctor never told me when I could either! I think I remember googling it and took a shower a week later. I just didn’t wash it directly for several days though just to be careful

I only had 3 stitches, but i took a rinse off shower 24 hours later. I took a full shower after a week. Im just now using soap in my area at almost 3 weeks. I was too scared to mess up my stitches.

Thank you. I think I’m going to try baby soap to wash.

I was told after one week I could shower with my first. I can't even remember how many stitches I had but it was a lot lol. I didnt use soap in the area and mainly cleaned the area while sitting on my toilet with the peri bottle. I didn't feel safe enough to use soap until like 2-3 weeks after and then i didn't use a lot and i used dove soap at the time.

hey momma , i think it’s honestly whenever you feel comfortable with washing. i wasn’t told a set time around washing. i took a shower a couple hours after birth 🌚. i had a first and second degree tear. i just used a sensitive soap for my vagina and was very gentle with washing it. i also used the chair in the hospital with a towel over it and used that to help making it easier. regardless of when you take it , the first shower feels AMAZING.

I’m so glad you asked this I got nervous because of my stitches but feel gross without soap

I took a shower a day after I gave birth but I didn’t use soap directly down there I patted it with a damp facecloth in the shower.

I had a few stitches and was allowed to shower right away! I had a c-section with my first and also was allowed to shower right away and I had a lot more stitches from that then I did from my vaginal delivery 😂! I remember them telling just to not put soap directly on, but I could shower right away!

I took a shower two days postpartum and used soap down there very gently. I'm 15 days postpartum now, continuously wash with soap, and no issues have occurred 🤷‍♀️

I'm one week pp and had quite a few stitches. I showered on my 5th day. No soap in that area just rinsed with water.

Hmm I was never told not to shower and I had a third degree… but I would limit what you’re putting on the stitches directly obviously to what healing measures you already take. A simple soap shouldn’t be problematic…?

I had a Caesarian and was showering at the hospital the next morning. It’s encouraged to keep your hygiene up and lower infection risks. Just don’t scrub or rub soap to the stitched area, let water run over it as normal and pat dry. You can wash and scrub the rest of your body as normal though xx

I showered immediately with all my births. Using soap but being extra gentle. They didn't ask at the hospital if you wanted to shower?

I showered 12hrs after my baby was born and had 1 stitch. I am now almost 3 weeks pp and I washed with baby soap a week after. they used absorbable sutures and they came loose within 10 days so I just pulled them out lol. I was told i could use baby soap around my outer labia

I had the worst tear with my first, I ended up showering the next day at the hospital
