Pelvic Floor Specialist

Can anyone share their feedback on working with a pelvic floor specialist and if this has been helpful pre- and post natal? Such doctors are said to be helpful when it comes to making sure you are flexible, arrange a prenatal stretching/strengthening exercises for a mom + perineal massage. I went to see her twice so far. And each time i am recovering for a day. Cramping and body aches. I don’t think it is normal and/or expected. Thus, would love to hear any feedback from others who gain some benefit from such service

It’s normal to feel sore especially when you’re not consistent. Yes it’s worth it before , during and after .

@Desiree did it help you not to tear (if u had other kids)?

What helped to not tear is not pushing . Just allow your body to do what it’s naturally supposed to do. I had a successful vbac and I am only doing therapy and stuff bc I’m 5ft & having kids for a 6’7man and I’m tiny . Relax when you feel overwhelmed. Our body is made to give birth !

@Desiree love your advice! Thank u

Congratulations ! It’s not bad. Yes it’s a different kind of pain but once you relax and mentally prepare yourself you will be alright .

Curious if those that have used pelvic PT are in the US? I was referred to one but they do not take my insurance even though I have pretty good insurance, and it’s something like $250 for an assessment and then $100-200 per session. The one that does take my insurance has a 6 month waitlist. I can’t spend that kind of money regularly, but I’m curious if you think 2-3 sessions would be enough (getting home exercises) to be worth it.

Yes @Krissie, and you can use hsa/fsa, which is what I ended up doing. I did about 4 prenatal sessions + 1 birth prep session (with my husband), and have noticed a difference in being able to continue exercising without pain. The home exercises are also helpful for mobility and labor prep. I’d also suggest asking if they’d do a sliding scale so it feels more affordable, although I really think it should be standard prenatal care covered by insurance, but that’s another can of worms!

YES. I did pelvic floor therapy after my first and this time I’m going pre partum too. It makes such a difference.

@Lauren what was included in the scope? She keeps stretching my hip bone ligaments and massaging same area. And it hurts soo much even when she does that And then i am cramping for like a whole day afterwards

I actually see a OMT & physical therapy. Recently stopped pelvic manipulation due to me only having a couple weeks left. But I still work out and stretch . I got a prescription/referral from the doctor and insurance covers. if not your insurance company has benefits for before during and after prenatal care
