Instagram has quite a few accounts that focus on having a higher needs toddler and baby. Honestly if 7 hrs of breastfeeding keeps her quiet then that’s a positive, look at it that way. No toddler likes a nappy change, especially outside the house, it’s cold and unknown….normal! I make sure I give him lots of cuddles and kisses and a big hug before changing his nappy outside. And eye contact with smiles. If they see you stressed it stresses then too! Sending love, from one high needs toddler mum to another xx
When you get back just make sure you go on little tips out, to the park, out for little lunches etc . Exposure is key like you say if you get them used to it they will be no trouble at all . How is she now you’re on holiday xx
If it makes you feel less alone - my baby also had a very short time limit that she will sit in a pram, most of the time it’s only 10 min. She also doesn’t nap anywhere else but in the bed being fed to sleep and we can’t get a nappy changed in public as well. It’s very hard but you’re not alone.
It always feels like you’re the only one when you’re in the middle of it. Things like holidays can end up being an absolute nightmare. We went away to a caravan and my daughter would not sleep for love or money. I nearly threw everything in the car and drove home at midnight on the first night there. Try and relax, enjoy the good bits, accept there will be tough bits. And like others have said, use this as a little kick up the bum to make some small changes for both of you when you get home. It’ll get better.
You haven’t met my son!! I don’t think you’re as unique as you may think. Look, some are more high needs then others and quite simply, catering to those needs is really much more helpful to these kinds of situations. It’s 100% NOT your fault. A few things I have done. I have a toddler strap so I can pick him up( basically all the time). Like you said, snacks!! I would use a baby carrier in the airport, it’s just easier. They are for up to 3 hrs old as well, so it’s not odd in any way. Plenty of toddler are still breast fed and look to that as comfort and that completely fine! I would suggest you take her out in the pram every day from now on. You don’t need money to walk around the block or to the local park. Bring a ball to a green area and run around. Even going to the supermarket or shopping centre for exposure. Most councils do free toddler play sessions, check out your local council website.
