Small Growth Average

This is my second baby (first is only a year old), and I am seeing sooo many people post about how their baby has decreased in growth by a lot. I’m in the same boat with mine being 2nd percentile now and I’m under fetal medicine talking about delivering early, and my first was 53rd. What on earth is happening? I feel like all of a sudden a multitude of women are having decreased growth and it’s sparked my interest as to why🤔 The consultant said it’s nothing I’ve done to cause this small growth, which is reassuring, but why is this happening to so many other women too? Just a thought/rant.

I was marked as decreased growth from measurements but now marked as accelerated growth after a scan 🫠 Maybe it’s because slow growth is more of a worry so people post about it more? 🙂

I agree with Emily’s suggestion, that people probably worry more so about dropping centiles / small for gestational age and therefore post more about it. I don’t think there’s anything more to it than that. I also think that on this app there are ‘trends’, so certain points where you see posts about 1 topic more than others. I think we’re just at that point for this type of post because we’re all around the weeks that growth scans tend to happen. I don’t know if you used the app for your first pregnancy and perhaps observed this? I certainly found it when we had our first. I hope everything is ok with your little one and with monitoring you can get as close to full term as possible. Sending lots of positive vibes x

I think it's quite common actually due to accuracy of scans. I looked at my growth chart earlier and she would have been plotting at 7.5 to 8lb on the 23rd centile and is now 9th centile plotting to be 7lb...so it's sounds a lot on the graph but isn't really, weight wise.

I completely agree with this post. I’m having the same trouble at the moment baby is on the 3rd percentile whereas my first baby was on the 50th and never had this issue. I was also on this app during my previous pregnancy and did not see nowhere near as many posts about decreased growth

With my first, all measurements were plotted manually, whereas now mine are digital. So I wonder if more growth scans are being triggered so people know how they’re tracking more than they would a couple of years ago!
