Formula prep

I have always made my bottles when my girl is due her feed, never prepared in advance but now when I’m out and about alone it’s getting difficult to make bottles and keep her settled alone especially when she decides she’s hungry a lil time before her time and I’m in a shop ect. Today im going out for around a hour/2 max and my girl will be due a feed a hour after I leave the house, could I make up a bottle before I go and it will be fine to drink then a hour after we leave the house? I’ll be somewhere where there isn’t much option for me to sit down and make the bottle ect so thinking it will just be easier for me to do this?

Bottles are ok to use 2 hours after being made fresh! 4 hours if transported with an ice pack x

Safe to use 2 hours after making if room temperature

@Jess thank you! It will save so much stress trying to prep outside! I’ll pick up ice packs for future if needed x

I always take a flask of hot water and the nuby rapid then I can make a bottle whenever I'm out whenever I need. But yes you can use them for 2 hours after making

If ours is due a feed and hour or two after we leave the house, we make with boiling water and just leave it to cool naturally and feed when he’s hungry.

@Lauren that’s what I usually do also but sometimes measuring out the water then into the rapid cooler then milk in the hot shot then the cold water is just a hassle especially when trying to hold the baby

@Steph that’s exactly what I did! Saved so much hassle as she woke up for her milk in middle of supermarket 🫣

Formula is safe at room temp for 2 hours so long as it hasn't touched babies mouth, it's 1 hour if it's touched babies mouth. And can be stored for 24 hours if kept in a fridge. We make our little ones bottles for the day in the morning, and if we go out I'll put a bottle in the cool bag with ice packs, and a flask of hot water to heat it up, but if he's due one within 2 hours of going out I'll also have one preheated and in a bottle carrier/warmer thing to keep it warm for him.

We were told my our midwives 6,6,6...milk formula can be left out for up to 6 hours. In the fridge for 6 days and frozen for 6 weeks. I don't like leaving for too many hours, but our baby has been fine with it since the hospital.

@Layla 6,6,6 is for breast milk, you can't freeze formula

@Layla that's the rules for breast milk not formula. Formula has much shorter times and can't be frozen.

Oooo I don't know why midwives told us that then. I haven't breastfed. Formula from birth. I had to stay in hospital for a week and that's what they told us 🤷🏽‍♀️ everyday. We have never needed to put in fridge nor freezer though.
