Changing formula

Guys I need advice on changing formula, currently on kendamil and baby is thriving on it but obviously they are having a country wide shortage, I've got one full tub here and I can't get it anywhere atm so worried I'll run out... My mum bought a tub of aptamil by mistake so just wondering if it's worth changing his formula? And if so how do I go about doing it?

A few supermarkets have it in stock online https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/kendamil-first-infant-milk-1-from-birth-800g

I have switched my baby from Kendamil to cow and gate. The price and availability is a lot better. Plus you can buy to smaller bags for less! I swapped him by mixing both the formulas together when making bottles. For example, if making a 5oz feed, I started by doing 4 scoops kendamil and 1 scoop cow and gate. Each day I decreased the kedamil scoops and increased c&g. Obviously I am not a medical professional but I followed the guidelines on the packet. It’s so nice to be able to go to the shop and always see the formula in stock!

@Amielia how was your baby's tummy during the transition?

Absolutely fine! I didn’t notice any change to him or his nappies. As I scoop change a day is quite gradual x

Legally all first milks have same standards and nutrition values due to regulations by law

"It does not matter which brand you choose, they'll all meet your baby's nutritional needs, regardless of price. By law, all infant formula sold in the UK must meet the same standards, which means they are all suitable for your baby's growth and development. If you have any questions or concerns, talk to your midwife or health visitor." From NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/start-for-life/baby/feeding-your-baby/bottle-feeding/how-to-make-up-a-feed/how-to-use-formula/#:~:text=By%20law%2C%20all%20infant%20formula,your%20midwife%20or%20health%20visitor.

The shortage is meant to be over now, the ceo made an announcement a few weeks back.

I chose to switch my baby from Kendamil to aptamil just because of how difficult it was to find, I just introduced one bottle of aptamil, waited a couple of days, then did kept replacing a bottle every few days until it was done. Granted he had loose poos for a couple weeks but I spoke to my HV and she said it was to be expected. I think we switched about 6 weeks ago and he’s happy as ever x

@Joanna literally no shops in my area have them, yesterday I went to Tesco and asked them to check other stores for me, she checked a 30 mile radius and every single store was sold out without a delivery date for the next lot 🤦‍♀️ Asda was the same unfortunately, so I'm guessing it's not actually quite over yet

Kendamil have stated their shortage issues should be sorted this month, might be worth keeping baby on it. Hipp organic I believe is the closest to kendamil in a pinch xx

@Ebony-Rose thank you

Try ebebek website next day delivery. When I first went onto it back in August there was none near me, I did Sainsbury’s, Iceland and Waitrose grocery deliveries every day for a first of the day slot and got quite a few. If they didn’t have it they just didn’t send the order and I didn’t get charged. It helped me see when they got their deliveries too!

If you go on kendamil website and go on store finder it will tell you where has it in stock! Have found this super helpful when my usual places are out of stock! But i Know the frustration.. i nearly made the change then a friend told me about this and haven’t had a problem 😊 xx

If you do decide to switch formulas you can follow as @Amielia advised. We had to switch formulas for medical reasons and it’s exactly how the paediatrician told us to do it to try and limit any tummy upset. Although all formulas are nutritionally complete, they will still be composed differently and it takes a little time for little ones tummy’s to get used to it. That was advice given to me by the infant feeding team when we considered switching formulas previously. Hope this helps x

I see your Bridgend too. 🙂 It took me 2.5 days to find an organic tub (looked in every supermarket in Maesteg and Asda / Tesco in Bridgend). Maesteg had a delivery yesterday so managed to grab some, although they’ve probably sold again now. Have you checked the likes of savers or boots? We changed from cow and gate to Kendamil and did a straight swap, didn’t need to transition. HV said it was a very soft formula. If I was doing it the other way round I’d swap a bottle each day so think it would take 5-7 days to transition over.

@Abbi I've tried boots in Bridgend, Porthcawl and even Port Talbot, I have no idea where my nearest savers would be tbh hun, I'll message my HV and see what she would suggest to do, I've managed to get 1 tub through click and collect at superdrug 🙌
