Picking a hospital in Toronto.

I know Sinai is considered number 1 but I’m also told it’s the busiest and they get the hardest cases so I may not get the attention I would hope for. If you had the option, and lived halfway between the two (in the east end) where would you go/where did you give birth ?

I went to sunnybrook (i live in Scarborough and work at hospitals in durham). They have high-risk OBs and high-risk units, plus a NICU level 3 (or higher, not sure. I was told by my fertility clinic i needed a hospital with NICU level 3 or higher when i was still expecting twins). Sunnybrook is also a trauma centre, so if something were to happen, they are equipped to deal with it. I have a personal history there, my family doctor is at Sunnybrook, my specialists, and my records, which was a huge reason for me to choose Sunnybrook. I loved my OB there, Dr. Gagnon, and I hope when I have my second in a few years that she's available. Keep in mind that Sunnybrook is a teaching hospital (not sure if Sinai is), so you will also see residents and med students. However, you can talk and request they not be there most of the time.

I gave birth at Humber River. ( i know you said east end but the care at Humber was amazing !) My OB worked there majority of the time and was only at his office 2 days of the week. On top you get a private room and proper care. When asking for anything they always came right away to anything and me giving birth at 36 weeks due to my placenta previa, doctors did daily check ins and staff every couple hrs. I would highly recommend

I second Kirsten ! The new Humber hospital is amazing! Get your own room, and the drs are amazing as well. Very polite and answer all your questions. Also all the tests tbey do after baby is born is done right in your room. So baby doesn’t have to be taken away.

I think it’s really silly to go to a hospital

I also gave birth at Humber river hospital. My choices I wanted to give birth was Mount Sinai or HR. Sunnybrook was also there too as an option, but I was glad I went to HR, like Kirsten said above, the care I received was perfect, my pregnancy was perfect and I had to be induced due to being overdue, however I did end up having an emergency c section which the service happened very quickly when it needed to be and very smooth. I was taken care of very well in that aspect. Thankfully everyone was okay in the end, all I can say I was glad that I chose to deliver in a hospital, you just don't know what will happen during delivery. The hospital is new and they have all the equipment required along with their own anasteciologist for the labour ward. All the best on your research and your delivery
