When to contact GP

When are you all contacting the GP regarding your pregnancy? With my first I contacted them at 5 weeks ish thinking it would be a few weeks for an appointment but they got me in the following week. They did say they don’t often take appointments under 8 weeks. Have you already contacted them yet?

I spoke to mine last week. Booked in my first appointment for the 8th week.

My GP don't see us for pregnancy i just got exemption form from them and I've got my 1st midwife appointment tomorrow and bloods on Saturday

@Laura sorry, i meant for a midwife appointment. How far along are you if you don’t mind me asking?

@PeggyK thank you. How far along are you if you don’t mind me asking?

Im 5 weeks

Okay. Thank you and congratulations 🥰

I'm 4weeks 4 days and my first midwife app is tomorrow

I let them know at 5 weeks and they already said the earliest 8 week booking appointment was 4 weeks away (at 9 weeks..). Not a big deal but must be lots of babies coming in 2025 😂

I think it all depends on where you live i know in my area they've stated birth rates have fallen so much so they've downsized a couple of the primary schools

@Amy thank you. I’ll wait until next week and give them a call x

Call at 6-weeks and they’ll book you in for your first appointment when you are 8-weeks

I'm only 3 +5. I contacted them today, they booked me in at 9 wks, first appointment they had available for me. I'm glad I called early. I feel like it's too early. But I'm a anxious planner.

@Lou this is why i want to ring now too but i haven’t missed my period yet so want to wait until that happens then i’ll call them x

I haven't missed my period yet either. It's due Wednesday. I called the midwife team. Then I had to do it all on the my pregnancy notes app. They sorted me straight out. I've called so early due to my first baby at 5wks they thought I had an ectopic, and I had to go to EPU, i had a scan at 5wk and 6wks. So it's easier if you're already registered on the systems.

@Lou thank you!! I have lost two previous to having my daughter both within 6 months of each other i was only scanned at the EPU for the first loss and it was classed as a pregnancy of unknown location. Which is my reason for holding off contacting them as the second one was a chemical pregnancy meaning my ‘period’ came as normal. So think i’m gunna wait till that day has been and gone and go from there. Thank you and good luck🥰

I’ve called twice but can’t get in touch with anyone 🫠 left a message asking them to phone me back but nothing 🙄 I’ll ring again another day 😅

I know with my area you do self referral for hospital then about a week later a midwife calls to do the checking call to book your first appointment as the GPS don't do anything

I think it’s depends on your area. Where I live we self refer and can’t do that until 6 weeks. I’m 6 weeks today and self referred this morning, it’s all set up on the app already. It said I’ll have my first appointment by 10 weeks

I only had my daughter last year so i know i have to refer myself to the midwife through the GP reception but it was just a query in to when as i didn’t want to do it too prematurely x

I rang and they gave me a appointment the following week x

There should be a form to complete online (via your hospital website), the midwives then contact you. Ours don’t see you until 8-10 weeks at the booking appointment
