Potty training
Does anyone have tips with potty training? It’s starting to click for my kiddo that going in the potty is a great option (She’s 2 and 7 months). She went one day, 0 accidents 6 successful potty trips all without a timer. We’ve tried a timer before and it just ended up being frustrating for us all (she’s incredibly independent) but the day we did no timers and reminded her to listen to her body she had zero accidents. So, we thought we had things on track, well now we’re back to having some accidents. We’ve tried different methods including no pants, underwear, putting a pull-up over her underwear to avoid the mess at daycare and since she’s in daycare I have noticed that if she has an accident they just put her in pull-ups despite the extras in her bag. Is this a normal part of potty training? Should I wait until she’s completely potty trained at home before even trying it at daycare? I just don’t want her to be embarrassed at school, but I know swapping between underwear and pull-ups can create confusion. She even takes naps in her underwear and hasn’t had accidents. So, kinda just looking for some insights.
We also introduced the potty slowly after she turned 2, but we’re consistently on the potty training-train now.
Signed,
A first-time mom
Hi Alana, I don’t have any major insights, except to say you’re doing a great job, and it’s hard. I’m a mom of two and we think (hope!) our son is potty trained at 3 after a couple weeks of no accidents, and my daughter is 6.5 and potty training felt like a stop and start marathon with her. Similar to you, we introduced the potty at 2 and she was really into it. We felt like she was doing great by 2.5 with minimal accidents throughout the week, and we did all the same things: timers, big girl undies, naked time. For us, she was in daycare full time and our daycare only put on a pull-up when she was out of spare clothes, so I might ask why they are doing that and if they can please use her extras. The truth is, we’d go 3 weeks accident-free, then have a week of multiple accidents a day, out of nowhere! We tried everything, even resorting to bribes and making deals; but what I’ve learned is that every kid is different and will get it when they’re ready. You’re doing everything right!
