LO has been bitten at pre school

My 2 year old goes to pre school and has unfortunately been bitten today, unwitnessed by staff, I know these things can’t be helped because sometimes kids do lash out and I get that but I just feel a bit upset and sorry for him. Just felt bad for him they didn’t call me when it happened, as he then had a few hours with no pain relief as I was unaware until I collected him and it looks so sore I hope he doesn’t start biting, and he still is happy to go back in, he only started a few weeks ago and has just settled

I'm sorry that happened to your little boy. They should have called you to let you know as soon as it happened. I hope he will be ok 🤗

@Rachel thank you, yeah I just wish they’d have called me when it happened as I told them I was at home today 😞 He seems okay he just keeps talking about it bless him

Why do you think these things can’t be helped? A childcare setting should have eyes on all children all the time, this means having staff keep an eye on specific areas, covering the entire space. As someone that’s worked in nurseries/daycares trust me this is very doable and should be a thing in every setting, it’s just the staff in my experience that tend to be the problem, with intentional lack of care and attention. I don’t understand why they didn’t report this to you as soon as they found out it happened. I think your expectations of where you’re sending your child to be cared for should be a lot higher. Every child deserves the best level of care possible.

@Abbie what is scary about the truth? Clearly stated “in my experience” regarding nursery staff, simply stating that I find they’re often intentionally non attentive is sparing the details trust me. Regardless, if you’re sending your child to a childcare setting, you should be expecting the best care and nothing less. And sure, you can’t be stood next to a child at all times, but in a childcare setting where there should be several eyes, it’s damn possible to ensure all children are supervised at all times, and here it’s stated this bite happened unsupervised. Let’s not try and excuse poor childcare settings (not stating this one specifically) and instead keep our expectations high please :)

My little girl has been bitten at nursery three times (once in baby room and twice in toddlers) one the face was a really bad one! Other two were on the arm. I just got a notification on the nursery app and a form to sign. I guess o really hard to foreshadow when a child’s going to bite and it happens super quickly.
