Baby is terrified of the potty…

Hi guys so I bought a potty the other day just to get her used to sitting on it and showing her what it’s for, I took her nappy off and sat her on it and she was absolutely terrified I couldn’t calm her down and now any time she remotely sees the potty she screams, I tried again to show her it’s okay and it’s not going to hurt her and showed her when I went toilet at the same time and she was so scared of it and I’ve never heard her cry so much :( I felt so bad, I know it’s early to potty train but I just wanted to get her used to the idea and not just do it all at once in a few months time :(

Mine doesn’t like sitting on it either 😂 I was just trying to introduce it early like you said, not potty training yet. You can role play with dolls for a little while to get used to it? Then I’m gonna try again when she’s a little older. Also people criticise the age for babies on the potty and I thought it at first but the age for potty training has actually come down and it is possible. I’m a nursery practitioner with babies and 2 children I know have been able to use the potty from 6 month old😊 they still wear nappies but do use it throughout the day❤️! X

@Libby oh that’s a good idea I will try with dolls definitely! Yeah some people say too early some people say to start at 6 months like you did I have only just introduced it as she’s taking her nappy’s off now😂😂😂 that’s amazing that they are potty trained! ❤️xx

Yeah they’ve put the age right down to 6 month due to how many children’s are going to school in nappies! Yeah just keep role playing and maybe leaving it out for them to see it more 😊 everything a baby does is learned behaviour so just be consistent ❤️ xx

We've pottied our baby since 6 months, we always have toys for her to play with on the potty so to begin with it was just a fun place to sit and play but now she asks to go (through sign) so I'd suggest just trying to make it a fun thing to begin with maybe have special toys just for the potty so it's a positive experience xx

Thank you guys! Okay yes thank you! I will pop it in the lounge and get some toys for her to play with and trying the role play too, thank you ❤️

Mine hated the cheap one I got so for his birthday we got one that looks like a toilet and has a flush button which makes a flush sound and flashing lights. https://amzn.eu/d/9dJs7lY It's also great for distracting him because he always wants to play in the toilet 🫣, he is obsessed! so we can say look go play with your own one. It's quite comfortable for him to sit on. Would be a nice Christmas gift! While sitting him on it to get used to it I read him the same 3 books about potty (DK boys potty training book. Hey duggee potty badge and a German one). Then if we exhausted those we sing songs ans look at a where's wally type picture of a farm / playground and point to all the things and name them. You can also give a little bucket with warm water to splash hands in which helps them relax
