Wrist, I hate having one in my hand! Elbow isn’t too bad
Very good question! I think having it on your hand, you can at least bend your arm, otherwise it's very hard.
Forearm all day every day, I absolutely hate IVs in my hand
IVs kill in the hand
Outside of my forearm! I had one placed there for my first delivery and it was so lovely because I couldn’t feel ANYTHING when it was used (I was in the hospital for a week w PPROM before actually delivering so it was used a lot). Second time I asked for it again but they kept going to a different vein nearby even when I told them it wasn’t that vein and hitting a valve 😒
I was given it in my elbow while giving birth it was horrible because I had to keep my arm straight the whole time
Half way up my forearm. That's the placement for my last baby and it was amazing. Never in the way and no pain. My mom is a labor nurse and that's where they try to place all IVs now
I had one on my wrist, but they had to try four times until they were successful as I have tiny veins 😂 I work in an hospital and when I did my cannulation training, we are told to start with hands up. But veins in the hands are usually smaller and more painful (especially when you need a bigger cannula), while elbow veins are usually bigger but you tend to move your arm more so they tend to bother the patient more. Wrist veins are big as well, but they tend to hurt the most!
Forearm. Haaaate when they try to put it in my hand. Honestly just thinking abt IVs is making me nauseous
I hate hand and AC (fold of elbow) honestly I’d rather it in my forearm
Where ever they can get it. My last c section I was poked 7 times and then the vein blew and they had to try again. If I can avoid it I will
Mine was wrist. Honestly I found it so annoying and in the way but I probably would have found it annoying wherever it was placed.
My second labor they took so long to try to get it. They poked me like 5 timesa. I think I finally got it in m hand. With my first and any other times i’ve had to get one I think I like it in my forearm/elbow area but i can’t remember what’s the easiest to hold baby
I would say hand because I had it on my arm this time around and I had to move/adjust my hand a certain way.The machine kept going off hard to sleep hearing it beep.I can’t just lay my arm especially because im right handed.I had to sit up and use my left to hold my phone,feed/hold baby.

I actually prefer my hand as the site for iv’s. I knew if it was on my upper arms it would’ve gotten in the way of holding my baby
I hate the placement on my hand, it’s always pinchy and uncomfortable the ENTIRE time, but anywhere else I feel like might get in the way and bumped easier
After how much my hand hurt, if I was ever nuts enough to go through it all again or if I ever need a line again. I will be requesting somewhere on my arm. The pain in my hand was 100 times worse then contractions on the drip
Nurse here— it’s best to place it in your hand. If you place an IV higher up in your arm, they can no longer place one lower in your hand, if the first fails… generally speaking. It’s always best to try the hand first… Plus, patients usually experience less problems in their hand. Bending the arm at the elbow can occlude the IV and it’s annoying…
They have real trouble placing it anywhere but my hand. The few times that I’ve needed it in the arm (when I had surgery) they had to do an ultrasound guided placement. I have teeny tiny baby veins.
Had mine in my arm and couldn’t even feel it, could tie my hair up myself with it in
For my c section i had 2 cannulas in each arm and had about 17 attempts/successes at having blood taken and cannula attempts all together, I have about 17 pinhole scars all round my hands/wrists/forearms/inner elbows
I have three midwives fail to put it in my hand was a nightmare!
Ivs in my hands always blow my veins so when I was in labour I asked to have it put in my elbow, it was refused and they forced it into my wrist... That pain was actually worse than labour because of course they'd collapsed my vein again 🤦♀️ almost ended up needing it in my ankle
Mine was so comfortable in my hand. Putting it in arm is just very uncomfortable whenever I bend my arm or move it around. It was simple going in my hand & it didn’t cause any bruising or soreness like it usually does if it were in my arm
I have one perfect visible vein on my inside elbow and basically no others so that seems to be pretty much my only option
If I'm just getting it for a little bit, arm/elbow. It's less painful to have placed for me, but overtime bending and moving my arm makes it worse. When it is going to be in for more than a few hours. they typically go for this really beefy vein on my left wrist. It's my only "good" vein. Hurts like hell to have placed, but they only stick me once, and it lasts longer. Feels like a wasp sting. (I've had many, many IVs.) They used my wrist/forearm for my 36 hour induction and it bruised SO badly, like it took over a month to go away. But it did the job!
They don’t usually do elbow bc you have to bend your arm a lot and they need the fluids to flow, I usually do wrist right behind the top of my hand or mid arm area on top, gives you the most movement and doesn’t really bother you too much
