Getting sterilised during a section.

I had my 28 week appointment with the consultant today and she agreed that a section is the right approach. She asked if I wanted more children, but I know this is the last one. She suggested that sterilisation can happen during the section. Has anyone else had this done? Pros and cons? I've tried various methods of contraception and hated all of them, so wondering if it might be a good option.

Is that having your tubes tied? I was asked if I’d like that but told me it could bring on early menopause. I have no idea what I’m going to do I don’t want the coil it freaks me out. I’ve tried many pills and none have worked (I actually got pregnant on one pill but miscarried) I was always on the depo which was my plan but now I keep seeing bad things about it. I was on it for 8 years I’ve been off contraception for 4 years but I know I don’t want any more babies 🫣

I've had 4 children and was sterilised in July this year during my 4th c section xx

@Siobhan I'm sorry. That's rough. Contraception is a pain with so many issues. She said they would probably take out the whole of the ovary and fallopian tube, but would take out a section of the tube should it not be possible to take it all out.

@Kirsty How did you get on with it? Any negatives?

They took my tubes out during my csection in August. It only took a little more time. As long as you have your ovaries it doesn't put you into early menopause. Part of me is sad this is my last baby but I only planned on two, he's my 3rd, and I'm 40 so I really am done.

@Heather Thanks. She said it would only add 5 more minutes. I really don't want to go into early menopause, but 3 will be enough (my husband also has two who stay a couple of nights a week, then we have an 18 year old foster daughter too). I'm 43 as well and this one was unexpected. I've loved being pregnant, but this is the last one.

Yeah as long as you still have one ovary it won't put you into menopause. Just taking the tubes or snipping them won't put you into menopause. My doctor took my tubes which I was good with that. I was doing research that the majority of ovarian cancer actual starts in the tubes so taking the tubes lowers your chances of ovarian cancer too.

@Heather ah, ok. Yes, the consultant mentioned that they're finding cancer starts in the tubes.
