Dummy’s and thumb sucking

Any advice on how to stop my baby from sucking his thumb once his dummy is removed? He doesn’t babble or hardly make any noise except blowing raspberries so I really don’t want his dummy to impact his speech development 😩

Is he having dummy/ thumb just for sleeping or other times too? If just for sleeping then it shouldn't effect speech development. If he's doing it during play time then try to give him something to hold in his hands and keep his hands busy when he wants to suck his thumb

@Jo he was having the dummy a lot more then I liked before, now it’s just for sleep times or today he had it whilst I got everything ready to take him to baby group so I could put him down. He will often drop items to suck his thumb. Try to keep him as busy as possible but it’s constant currently

he's just comforting himself. as long as he doesn't have anything in his mouth when he is trying to talk or you take it out when trying to talk to him, it's fine.

@Casey my little one has a dummy most of the time unless he sits it out he’s started to babble an blows raspberries. I’ve not found dummies to impact ther speech he’s currently teething aswell so it’s a good soother helps to settle

We’ve removed my lo’s dummy and she’s started sucking on her comforter instead, does he have anything like that? She never really sucked her thumb that much before though x

@Alice he has a taggy blanket which he rubs the tags to go to sleep. He does suck/bite it but mostly just going for his thumb now 😂

@Casey aw maybe he already has a good attachment to the thumb so probably prefers it, plus it’s always there! 😂 Well if it’s any consolation I was a thumb sucker until I was 15 - day and night! (how embarrassing 😳) But never had any speech issues and never had any dental work done 😁
