RVI, QE or Cramlington??

I had my first in Cramlington in 2021 which was great, as I was induced early and had a private room the whole time. Now 31 weeks with my second, hoping not to get induced this time so went for RVI thinking the birthing centre would be open by now. However it isn’t and I keep hearing about people having much less than ideal experiences at the RVI. Thinking of changing over to Cramlington again (though I was hoping for midwife led) but unsure what the QE is like? Durham would also be an option. I am just so confused! Could anyone enlighten me on their experiences? Whether you needed interventions or not. Thank you so much ❤️

Rvi I was induced in June ended in emergency c section at 9cm after care was absolutely awful tried to send me hope with sepsis, kept leaving me 8+ hours no pain relief then kept sending me home when scar re opened from start to beginning was awful experience don’t get me wrong I’ve heard some absolutely amazing experiences at the rvi as well x

I had my baby at the RVI in May and had an awful experience particularly the care on the post natal ward after

I had my daughter at Cramlington via induction in 2022. I wouldn't go anywhere else if I was to have another baby, highly unlikely though, but I'd always recommend them x

Sorry I can only speak for Cramlington but I had my boy there at the start of this Sep and can’t fault them, so had a really positive recent experience! I was induced as well xoxo

Thanks everyone! Will likely switch to Cramlington again I think at this rate! Couldnt fault them with my first honestly - it should have been quite traumatic really the way things panned out but actually came away from it feeling really positive so not sure why I ever thought RVI would be better.

I gave birth at the QE in December last year. Was induced and ended up being in hospital from 22nd - 28th Dec. All staff were amazing both during induction, on delivery ward and postnatal! Would recommend ! x

QE

I personally can’t fault the RVI. My experience was great. But I had a fairly uncomplicated birth. I’ve heard lots of negative stories about cramlington and about RVI. Think it’s the state of the services at the moment. If you want a private room and your partner to stay go for cramlington.

I heard the birthing unit was reopening at rvi in Dec which would allow partners to stay overnight. Has anyone else heard about this?

@Kate I’ve heard they’re opening next month pretty much every month this year 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Cesca that’s my worry. My main thing is that I’d like my partner to be able to stay overnight so I’m considering Cramlington

@Kate it could be possible they hired newly qualified student midwives in September so I know they had to spend time working on delivery suite before they could reopen however when I was pregnant this time last year I was told similar each month that it would be opening

I get so confused between the different areas you can give birth!

I got induced at cramlington and had a very positive experience from start to finish x

I had my little one in cramlington, had a midwife by my side coaching me through it all from my drip got started right up until I was tranfered to post birth ward. The care of the midwife’s was fabulous. I did have some complications after birth and we never quite got the the bottom of why but they were ontop of it as much as they could be. If I was to have another baby I’d defiantly go back there

I work at the QE and had my 1st baby there. It's like cramlington. I had second baby at cramlington and would definitely avoid the QE for your baby x

Have officially asked to be booked under Cramlington NSECH and feeling relieved! Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, its been super helpful ❤️

im 29 weeks pregnant and currently an outpatient at the rvi and the patient care isnt the best i can admit, i’ve considered changing hospitals but seems to be so much hassle, i went in for reduced movement and they kind of just shrugged me off leaving me in panic cor hours, i went in again as i thought my waters broke and they kept me for hours with no reasoning didnt tell me what tests they was doing or why i was still there after saying i was completely fine
