Experiences at WCH

Hi all, anyone who has had their care/birth through the Women’s and Children’s Hospital - what was your experience like? Would you recommend staying with WCH or requesting a transfer to a different hospital? I’ve heard good things about the Lyell Mac so currently considering which hospital.

I just had my bubs at WCH. I absolutely loved bubs and I’s care. Unfortunately my baby did have a rough start to life and did stop breathing, but he was in the best possible place and they’ve looked after him so well & made sure to rule out every possible cause before letting us go home. The nurses are lovely and my midwife (Wendy, MGP) who delivered him was super knowledgeable and made sure to coach me through the birth. I ended up being completely in the moment during my birth & only had a first degree tear xx

I ended up having a c-section but I was with the midwifery group practice program at women's and children's Hospital I can't fault their level of care at all through my whole pregnancy and birth.

I had my first at LMH and now my second I am going through WCH. I am finding so far the wait times with WCH can be extreme but I am not sure if general area at LMH is any better as I was on the high risk side there… for WCH I find I need to bring snacks lol.

First baby - awful horrific experience. Midwife I had during my labor was abhorrent - risked my babies and my life and was all round the rudest medical professional I’ve ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Nurses in the post ward were no better. Now I did have my baby Xmas day, so I understand nobody wants to work Xmas day but the treatment was horrific. Just generally I was very traumatized after my first son. (Word limit won’t let me type of out everything unfortunatley) Second baby - I managed to get into the group midwifery program at W&C and what a group of incredible midwives. It was a total polar opposite experience. Amazing. I explained in detail how upsetting my first baby’s birth was and my midwives second time round were so understanding, so kind. If you’re going to have a baby at W&C try try try to get into group midwifery program.

I’ve had a very low-risk pregnancy throughout and I’m at Women’s and Children’s with basic public care, while I’ve not had the same midwife at every appt, every single one of them has been lovely and ready to help. The 24hr Women’s Assessment Phone Service has helped so much and they’ve been very understanding the 2-3 times I have called. Wish I could tell you how labour/birth goes but have a few weeks to go yet haha

I just had my second little girl about 5 days ago. I was so happy with the experience of hospital I can’t say anything about it.

I've had both my girls at WCH and amazing experiences both times. All the staff were completely helpful (although one midwife with my first was a little condescending and rude but chances are you'll find someone like that anywhere thankfully she wasn't looking after me for more than a couple hours) But everyone else was amazing, so much information and helpful tips with recovering and baby and the midwife visits at home after we left were great as well!
