Is it broke?
I’d assume not as she’s in no pain and can move it fine
@Crystal is there a hair wrapped around? I’ve seen that before but on toes. So strange if there’s no actual trauma. I would personally go to a&e. Better to be safe x
Has there been an injury? Or perhaps a single hair wrapped around it?
Sorry, shouldn’t given more context. She hurt it yesterday evening. No sure how as I wasn’t in the same room at the time. I assume she’s trapped it in a drawer or something. No hair guys! X
I’d just be taking her to the GP in the morning especially if she’s not in loads of pain etc. trapped fingers can become very bruised and look awful. I once did it and my nail went completely black. Hopefully it looks worse than it is. A+e is an absolute nightmare with kids especially ones who should be asleep in bed. I’d definitely not put her through that unless there were some serious signs going on but if all it is at this point is bruising that’s not a major red flag for an emergency.. in my opinion anyway
I’d take her along to a&e, just to be safe. Edit to add: seeing a GP in my area is just as much of a pain in the arse as a trip to hospital. I’ve only ever had good experiences with my eldest in his few trips to A&E. As there was an injury and you didn’t see it, I’d want peace of mind it wasn’t a break. I also broke a bone in my foot and wasn’t in any pain and kept walking, but due to bruising my mum insisted we get checked out, and it was a break and I was put in plaster. They don’t tend to do much for fingers if there is a fracture, but I’d still want a medical professional to give it the once over.
@Crystal my son broke his foot in 3 places and walked on it fine. Definitely worth an x ray x
I would personally take her to the hospital. Better to be safe than sorry. I should imagine the call back would tell you to take her to the A&E department or out of hours doctor to see it and get it checked out as a precaution just in case.
@Chloe this isn’t me trying to be argumentative at all, just more curious as to another perspective on this. Fully agree that getting it checked out is good idea and that they won’t do much for broken fingers but would you really haul a small kid out of bed at this time of night to go sit in a+e overnight for them to either confirm or not confirm it’s broken and then seen her home? Even though she’s not in pain etc? I’m just asking incase I’m missing something as I’d always try do things that arnt an emergency in the day time. Everything’s more traumatic doing it overnight lol
I would attend A&E or minor injuries or similar in the morning. I'm a radiographer so I see broken bones all the time and this amount of bruising is a lot, it is characteristic of a broken bone so I wouldn't be surprised if it is broken under there.
@Jess Potentially, yes I would. I’ve never had to sit in a&e overnight, my experiences, though only few, have been really good - empty waiting rooms, seen quickly and he’s either carried on sleeping on me/in the pram, or has been awake but dosile and then asleep when back in the car. When I have had to go and take him in the day time our experience has been pretty much the exact opposite! Busy waiting rooms, longer waits and hard to keep him entertained and patient! My worry would personally be if it ends up getting worse overnight or she does end up in pain later like in the early hours of the morning, or it’s not a break and there’s something else going on that may be more time sensitive (not a medical professional, and nobody saw what happened, so I wouldn’t feel confident)
@Chloe oh wow - the last time I looked at our local a&e dept online, it had this flashing box that said the current wait time to be seen by a doctor was about 6 hours and that was on a random week evening. Our GP would get us in within the hour though. Weird how different areas are.
@Jess I can almost never see a GP the same day I call up, and even they’ve sometimes suggested 111 or a trip to the hospital rather than to wait for an appt! 🤦🏻♀️

Go to the A&E in the morning. Most hospitals have a separate area for kids, so they're seen faster
just an absolute shot in the dark but could it possibly be raynaud’s syndrome? it doesn’t seem to really be harmful but it’s at least an option to explore if all else fails
Have u tooken her to hosp or docs yet? It could be broken? Bless her hope its not causin her any pain, it looks sore. At 12 -13 weeks i had take my daughter to hosp she hasnt been well shes had this bad chokin cough for weeks also i noticed her bone rib pokin out on left side the hosp did a xray u should ask for a xray , they told me if it was broken it goes bruised like her finger so it could be broken ? Let us no how she gets on, has she knocked it anywhere or trapped it on a baby toy / baby bouncer / playmat etc….? It looks puffy aswell x
Bless her x
My sons finger looked like this and he chipped it and was in no pain either so yeah I would get it looked at
My daughter got her hand pulled into an elevator door. Even with X-rays coming up inconclusive, they still had her wear a custom splint they made right there. She had to wear it for ten days, but I was able to remove it for showers.
Please make sure you take her to a&e to be checked out, even things as little as that can turn to sepsis really quickly x
On way to hospital guys! 111 haven’t rang back and don’t want to wait for it to get worse! Thanks
Hope all goes well crystal keep us updated hun pls fingers crossed she all is ok xxx
Hope little one is okay x
All okay thanks everyone! Just bruised xx
…. She’s not in pain & can use it fine. Bruising is the cause of concern
