Elective C section at Derby Hospital

Hi! I recently moved my care to Derby and I am booking for an elective C section at 39 weeks soon. I am currently 37 weeks. I wanted to reach out and love to hear about experiences with C section at the hospital here. My midwife took bloods from me a couple of days ago and has given me quite a bruise and swelling around the area which has never happened before. So I am now wondering what the care is like over all as well especially with a major abdominal surgey.

I had a c section about 3 months ago with my second and they were absolutely amazing ! Care was really good 😊 even within theatre they were amazing and put me at ease after having a bad 1st birth naturally it was the best decision I made in the end even my recovery has been better than when giving birth naturally

I had my LO 2 months ago and I absolutely agree with Jen, they were great during the surgery and did explain everything I asked about beforehand as I had an emergency c section. The aftercare in the postnatal ward was OK. Make sure you bring things that make you comfy( pillow, light cover, small fan if needed, etc..) Good luck x

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with me. It puts me at ease! 🥰🥰

I had an emergency c-section but agree everyone was lovely. There was one nurse who was rude (told me to get out of bed despite the fact I wasn't able to due to my circumstances) but I just spoke to the head nurse on the ward and she sorted her out 🤣 the nurse came and apologised as she hadn't read my chart before coming in to see me. Make sure you have your wishes written down somewhere, such as skin to skin and feeding etc. I was so out of it after that I didn't ask for help breastfeeding so we struggled, but once I told them they supported me and even gave me the hospital pump to up my supply due to the delay.
