Anxious about the long car drive to the hospital

I am 32 weeks pregnant and not only are we expecting our 1st baby in the coming weeks but we are in the middle of moving house and area. The hospital I'm currently registered to have the baby at is rated as outstanding, I really want to have my baby there but it's looking like we are going to move 1.5 hours drive away. The hospital near the new house is still 40 mins drive and by the time we move in a month, I won't have long to do all the appointments again and scans at another hospital. My midwife seems to think it will be fine to drive 1.5 in labour. Do you think I will be ok? Any tips on how other mums managed long drives on the way to the hospital or how you timed things so you didn't get there to early or late? Appreciate your advice 🙏🏻

You might have to sit on the edge of the seat. Your midwife might be able to show you some different ways to sit. You can sit in backseat and put knees on the seat and face back window. My doula actually recommended that is going back and forth between those positions mafe labor easier. And I arrived all the way dilated and it still takes a couple of hours to push the baby out

I was 3 days in labour with my first lol. It’s very difficult to know but I’d say the ‘chance’ that you will have at least 1.5 hours to get to hospital in time is very likely!

@Jess Agreed, with a first baby especially... You'll most likely have a lot of time to get to the hospital! My first labour was 22 hours x

Gosh I’m in exactly the same situation! My first labour was 75 hours with two 20 minute trips to the hospital. This is my second so hoping things move a bit quicker, but I’m now likely to be 45 minutes away- longer with traffic. At this point I’m just accepting that labour is generally unpredictable and what will be, will be 🙈

Thank you so much for the advice, it definitely gives me more confidence and reassurance! Do you think being trapped in the car and not being able to walk around and move that much whilst having contractions will be tough to get through? @Maggie thanks for the position suggestion, I will 100% try that!

Book a hotel to stay in near your hospital around your due date. You never know how long your labour is going to be. It could be a couple of days or it could be a few hours. You also don't know what the driving condition will be. The hospital near me, often the roads are closed during the winter
