Breastfeeding to bottle...

Hey mamas, has anyone successfully weaned baby off of boob onto bottles? If so how have you done this? I love breastfeeding, but baby starting nursery in January and I go back to work a couple days a week so I think its for her best interest that we go onto bottles sooner rather than later

I formula feed so cant help there but just to say, many mums still BF before and after daycare and babies have food and water while they are there, it could avoid a lot of stress for you in your remaining time off work, so dont stop unless you want to! All of us bottle feeding mums will have to start weaning off bottles when they turn one anyway so you might be giving yourself double the work lol!

@CeeCee I'm just worried she won't have any milk at all whilst she's there, and she'll only be 11 months when she starts 😞

Do you mean you'll express for bottles ?

No I can't express, I get 2oz on a day if I'm lucky

She used to be combi fed with formula, but she refused bottles from 4 months so she has had them before

My eldest was 11 months when I went back to work and he went to nursery, he wouldn’t drink expressed milk at nursery but was fine with food and water, and I continued to breastfeed until he was 18mo when he self weaned. Could try an open cup or other cup as well if the bottles are a no. But usually at that age they can go a few hours without milk and rely on the food and water instead.

My son has been at nursery for two weeks now he’s 10months. I EBF (alongside solids) and he is a bottle refuser. He amazingly drinks milk from a sippy cup at nursery, along with water and solids and is fine. I decided not to change anything at home so when he’s with me I bf as normal

@Emily does he drink expressed milk or formula? X

@Emily what milk does your son have at nursery? X

He has expressed milk. Sometimes he doesn’t drink any and sometimes he drinks 100 mls in small amounts throughout the day

Just to add I have friends whose babies are formula fed and some of them completely refuse to drink milk all day and they are also fine drinking water and eating instead!

We have tried to get my daughter off the boob for months! I haven’t completely stopped breastfeeding but she is now having at least one feed a day from a cup. It’s taken some time however she is now taking one of her feeds as formula from an open cup with us slowly increasing the amount. We tried every bottle with different teats but nothing worked. I also tried pumping and formula but nothing made a difference. Something that’s been so helpful is we’ve added crushed raspberries to her formula and she gulps it down now. The plan now she’s taken a larger amount is to slowly make her morning and evening feed formula from a sippy cup too!

Thankyou everyone so so much ❤️
