Referral to midwife

This is going to be my first baby & I am trying to work out if I have to refer to my district midwife or if I can refer to any midwife. I work at a hospital that doesn’t fall within my district but would ideally like my appointments there due to convenience and also would prefer to give birth there (it is about the same time travelling from my district hospital). I tried to ask the receptionist at my GP but she wasn’t sure so any advice would be greatly appreciated ☺️

Other parts of the uk may be different but as far as I’m aware you self refer to the hospital you want to give birth at, then you’ll be contacted for your booking in appointment & scan. In my experience all the midwife appointments were at a local health centre & only my scans were at the hospital I’d chose, so not sure the appointments will be available at your hospital. If you go on the maternity link for your hospital I’m sure it’ll give you more info 😊

Where I live, you have to refer to my pregnancy notes, I was able to pick the hospital and area I wanted to be seen in.

You self refer to the hospital of your choice however if you aren't neat it when labour happens just make sure you have your notes and any hospital can and will take you

Lovely - thanks for your help! ☺️

My GP referred me to the hospital of my choice yesterday. We're Worcestershire based if that helps. X
