Can’t get baby to take a bottle

I have tried literally every trick to get my EBF baby to take a bottle. I have been trying on and off since she was 3 months but without success. She’s now 5 months. I’m just getting worried as my supply has decreased and I’m worried she’s not getting enough. Tried my expressed milk but has high lipase. Also tried aptamil formula Please can someone help Thank you!

You can bottles that are made to look like your breast try that and see if it works

Try different bottles with different flows! Some good ones are comotomo, Philips avent and tommy tippee

When you’ve tried feeding her a bottle who is feeding her?? Because if it’s you holding her and the bottle, she associates you with breastfeeding therefor she’s going to fight it and try to refuse because she wants your breast and she can smell your milk. If you can hand her off to someone with a bottle and leave the room for 5 mins to see if they can get her to take it, it might help! My daughter is 14 months now but she still will do this. She will refuse a bottle of whole milk now if I’m in the room. But if I leave the room, our nanny can get her to drink her whole milk then! It’s wild how these babies are 🤣 I saw someone said get the bottles that are custom made to be like your breast… those can be pricey and not everyone has the budget for them or the time to wait for that process to feed their child. So I suggest calling a gal pal or your mom or sister or cousin etc to see if they can help for a day while you figure this out! Take a day and try all sorts of options/bottles

@Madi Tbh I’ve been the one trying but I have had other people try such as partner, mother in law but no luck there. I haven’t tried leaving the room so will have to try that!

I had the same issue until this evening. My baby is 5 months. We’ve tried so many bottles, Nanobene, Mam, tommee tippee, nuk Latex, and finally tonight he latched onto Nuk Perfect match. Completely different style of ‘nipple’ he even took it straight from me, which my first born wouldn’t do for a months after taking it from others. I’d definitely recommend the Nuk Perfect match bottle, I wish I tried it sooner!

@Lauren unfortunately tried the NUK perfect match too :(

https://www.nct.org.uk/information/baby-toddler/feeding-your-baby-or-toddler/10-bottle-feeding-tips-for-breastfed-babies We offered each bottle as a ‘toy’ or soother before adding milk. This meant he could try it out whilst relaxed. Perhaps this might help. Your baby will learn to use a bottle, it can take some time for them to grasp as they’ve only known breast feeding before. Have you tried the Nuk latex? My SIL is a trainee midwife and mum of 3, and she had luck with this one

@Lauren I will try the latex one! How do you offer it as a toy? The whole bottle or just the teat?

I did this both ways. The bottle as a toy and the teat guided by my finger for chewing 😊

My baby refused the bottle when I decided to stop breastfeeding and transition to formula. We followed this guide and it was massively helpful. It took a while and many many different brands of bottles before we could get it to work. Good luck!!!! https://www.rachelobrienibclc.com/blog/what-to-do-when-your-breastfed-baby-wont-take-a-bottle-introducing-a-bottle-part-3/
