Autism signs?

My 11 month old babbles/screams alllll day long literally as soon as we wakes till she knocks out , she also stims from time to time, finger flicks, scratches the back of her head/ ears ( when frustrated)and rather independent play , I was told by a friend that it can be a sign of autism now I’m wondering if any other moms have experienced the same with their LO..?

She points Feds herself well Pulls to stand Walks only in her walker Replies to her name ( half the time ) Has 8 teeth • I know she’s meeting her milestones but I just have this feeling deep down inside that she may be

A lot of autism traits are also traits of babies/toddlers I also felt like this with my little boy was torn between if it was autism or just typical baby behaviour. He’s 2 now and just been referred down the autism route. Mamas usually know best and if you’re concerned then speak to someone. My son also met all milestones and can talk like a fully grown adult but he’s deffo on the pathway xx

@Molly thank you so much I needed this ! There’s so much autism awareness but only on it’s traits referring to getting a diagnosis but I wish it was more awareness of how it vastly differentiate between each child , for example some verbal some aren’t , so itll be easier to start the process 😫

@Lydia im from the UK and here it’s very much ‘oh but your child can speak so they can’t be autistic’ but autism is a spectrum and not every autistic person is the same. Some traits are very much more present in a higher percentage of people with autism but it doesn’t mean just because one person can do something that others can’t that they aren’t on that spectrum xx

My daughter regressed in her speech and is still not speaking now only a few words and is considered non verbal by our paediatrician, she regressed in her food as well after 14 months and went back to purées and smooth textures ! This is due to sensory processing issues ! She’s asd level 3 and non verbal I’m in Australia My daughter use to flap her hands heaps when excited, scratch herself when frustrated and would rather do her own thing with play! She still doesn’t pretend play or anything like that She wasn’t clapping until almost 2 (she’s almost 2 and a half) She still isn’t pointing And doesn’t always make eye contact and more likely than not doesn’t respond to her name

@Molly out of curiosity what differences have you noticed with your little one? I still query ASD with my son (nearly 2) but he has always been so advanced with his speech and gross motor, seems to do a bit of imaginary play (pretending to be his cars and planes/flying them with noises and pretending to be different animals/makes us pretend babycinnos)…. And semi interested in other kids (more so recently) I still have a gut feeling he’s a little different from his peers, but like you said get shut down because he’s so verbal. Curious to hear your experience!

@Maddie he can’t regulate his emotions to the point he destroys my home. Smashes tvs/toys, is verbally and physically abusive towards me and his sister. He sensory seeks so he’s constantly spinning/jumping off furniture. He has to be touching my hair at all times (with his feet most of the time to the point he’s ripping chunks of my hair out) or he gets so upset as this is how he self soothes . He can’t concentrate on one things he is so easily distracted and bounces from one activity to another. His is definitely more the regulating of his emotions and his intense reactions to minor situations. He rips his eyelashes out and his hair and bites himself. He also can’t stand loud noises (unless it’s him making them) or bright lights.

@Molly thank you so much for sharing! I wonder if my son is also starting to have difficulties regulating his emotions (although again difficult to unpick neurotypical toddler tantrums vs overstimulated meltdowns). What age did you little guy start having more noticeable difficulties?

@Maddie he was around 1 when it started and it’s progressively got worse over time he’s now 30 months x
