Biting

My 14 month old is a major biter and I honestly can’t get him to stop no matter how much he is told and explained to way he can’t ( I know he’s young so this won’t really work ) everyone older I ask just says to bite him back but there is 0 chance of me letting anyone do that including myself ( they are old fashioned and it’s what was done back then )

Is he in daycare? A lot of kids bite in daycare as they can’t communicate and that’s their form of communication to say hey I don’t like something. Once the kid can talk more it lessens a lot. My kid doesn’t bite and isn’t in daycare, this is just what I’ve heard from other moms 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Nikki mines not she’s bits me too

Might sound silly but have you tried completely ignoring it? I don’t know about anyone else’s toddler but if I give attention to anything bad including telling her off it just makes her want to do it more. I find ignoring things completely works better than addressing it when they’re too young to understand. Obviously if she’s biting someone stop her but then completely redirect ?

My girl went through this phase at around 12 months. We tried to remain calm and either removed ourselves or her from the situation. For example if we were sat and she did it we would stand up and walk away and say ‘no biting mama’ and then offer her a teether or something she can bite as an alternative in order to meet her needs at the time. If we were holding her we would place her on the floor and again say ‘no biting dada’ and offer her an alternative. It’s developmentally normal along with teething etc but of course a boundary you want to put in place to keep everyone safe. It took a good few weeks (6-8 roughly) but she got it. I’m expecting it to start again when she’s teething again but we’ll just reconfirm the boundary x

@Nikki no he isn’t in daycare he’s either with me or,my mother or down his dads 3 days a week

@Leigh-Anne haven’t tried ignoring him yet might have to give it ago

@Leolie we have all tried moving away from him/ putting him down and telling him he can’t do it but he just comes over and does it again
