When to increase amount per feed

At what point are you guys increasing formula per feed? My 14 week old is on 6oz per feed except for 4oz in middle of night as trying to phase out night feed and he falls asleep at 4oz. This is already more than suggested. He drains each bottle now and rarely has any leftover. He comfortably goes 4 hours between feeds for the most part and doesn't seem hungry, but should he be stopping a feed because he is full rather than because bottle is empty? Not sure if I should increase to 7oz per feed, especially to try and feed him up more in the day so we will sleep through at night, but is this too much?

I believe that they say you should increase the amount when the baby is regularly draining bottles and/or looking for more. Your baby will know when he's full so there's no harm in upping it to try. I upped my little boys cas he was draining the bottles and now sometimes he does and sometimes he doesn't but I offer it just incase 🙂

When mine was draining 6oz I upped to 7 and he’d drain those too. But I’m not moving to 8. He doesn’t cry for more, I think of it was there he’d be a pig and drink it 🤣. Spoke to my HV and she advised not to move to 8 as his weight gain was marking perfect through the chart. What they don’t want to see is their weight suddenly sky rocket or plummet on their chart. If you’re unsure speak to your HV as they will advise best x

Thanks both that's great. I might speak to HV as he went from 9th to 25th percentile last time 😬

My boys on 6oz and doing the same. I’m going to introduce 7oz as during some feeds yesterday he was 100% wanting some more! And he’s gone from going every 3 and half hours to 2 and a half hours. However he was born on 91st centile so a big chunk 😅. Trust your gut! X

Babies don’t really know they are full as opposed to pressure on their tummy until about 6 months, so if they are content, have lots of wet/dirty nappies and are putting on weight, you’ve probably got it about right 😊

There’s no harm in trying, I always do 210 bottles for my girl because she can take anywhere from 150-210 so she has the option, her last Feed at around 8ish I do a 240 because she was finishing the 210 bottle and wanting more! But if he’s having everything in bottle and still wanting more it’s a good indication to up the bottles!
