TCC while breastfeeding

My baby is currently 19 months old, and we're planning to have a second baby. We've been trying for a few months now but haven't conceived yet. I was breastfeeding twice a day, and now I'm down to one. Has breastfeeding stopped anyone from becoming pregnant? With my first baby, I was pregnant one month after my IUD, so I guess I'm just a little worried.

I personally had to stop breastfeeding to get my period again and get pregnant. I stopped at 13 months to try for a second kid and then didn’t get a period till 16 months but then got pregnant on my second cycle. Have you had a period yet? Breastfeeding can prevent you from ovulating so that could totally be a reason why.

@Nikki I actually had my period at 6 months postpartum

Are the periods regular?

@Nikki yes! I get them every 30-32 days..this time I'm going to use the ovulation strips

No I EBFd 3 times a day when I got pregnant with my daughter 9 months pp without trying. It was much faster and easier than the first so I was quite shocked.

@Elsa that's interesting! Everyone has different experiences. My mom had my brother 2 months PP so my mom warned me that breastfeeding wasn't a contraceptive and to be careful. But now she's like telling me to stop breastfeeding if I want a second baby😅

If you haven’t had your period I would advise the same but after you get it I don’t think it influences anything but not an expert I guess!

I agree with Elsa. I think if your periods are regular it doesn’t make a difference if you’re breastfeeding. You can get pregnant. I think just using the ovulation strips would help so you know when you’re ovulating for sure.

I actually had an easier time getting pregnant with my second whilst breastfeeding than with my first. We got pregnant on the first try but I do track my ovulation so I knew I was ovulating. My son was over two years but I was still breastfeeding regularly throughout the day and night. Obviously this is just my experience and everyone is going to be different.
