Potty training

Hi just looking to see if I’m doing the right thing or for any advice. My LO keeps pulling his pull up off so I have started sitting him on the potty as a part of daily routine. I’m not getting rid of pull ups as of yet as it’s a big change. But I’ve been sitting him on potty , increasing his fluids. I know this is gonna be a long journey and he might not actually be ready yet so I’m just going at his pace. I am off for 2 weeks in December/ April for school holidays so I am gonna try properly go into pants then. But I just wanna get him used to sitting on potty etc first? Does anyone have any advice or will I continue with this at the moment he also can’t communicate if he needs a wee/poo yet and I find it tricky to notice ques when he’s weeing or pooing I just notice pulling at the back of his nappy☺️

So we started potty training on Friday as my daughter was the same! She was pulling at her pull up and had been loving sitting on the potty etc. We couldn’t see any cues expect her hiding to poo before we started potty training but instantly on day one of potty training we saw them immediately. We are currently day 3 and already wearing trousers but going commando. We are following the oh crap method which seems to be working well so far! Not gonna lie, the first day is exhausting as you are watching them like a hawk to learn all the cues etc but once that’s done you’ll get a real sense on if wee one is ready or not x

@Vicki thanks for the advice that’s really helpful ☺️xx

@Alex no problem! Happy to help as when we went into it, we weren’t sure but one thing I’ve learnt is as long as I feel ready then wee one definitely feels that good energy and gets excited about it x

@Vicki I’ve ordered all the potty training essentials so I think from tomorrow I’m gonna just let my little one go commando. Then use pull ups for nap time/ bed time. See how we get on because he has done a wee wee on the potty today! So think I’m gonna just go for it☺️x

@Alex amazing!! Good luck!!

I would also recommend the oh crap method. I used it with my first and found apart from watching like a hawk for the first couple of days it was quite easy. By day 3 we were taking little walks around the block with a portable potty. My eldest was a bit older than our December 22 babies but I will definitely use the method again with this one when I feel the time I right for him. Good luck! X

So Ive never heard of oh crap method but I just googled and it says keep the child completely naked. How many days did you have yo keep yours naked?

@Rasma until you think they’ve picked up the gist of it. But it suggests 1-3 days. We were only full naked on day one and we now are doing commando with loose leggings and will do that for at least couple of weeks before adding wee pants in!

@Rasma we were also only naked for 1 day (we had a jumper on top then naked from the waist down). Loose trousers & commando for about 10 days thereafter

What Potties are people using? We aren’t ready to potty train yet but I bought a couple for when he’s running around naked and find that both the potties I have don’t seem that suitable for a boy, not very deep, if he was to wee it’s going everywhere 😂

Google says shouldn’t reward them after they done their business. So I cant even say well done or great job ? We will be starting potty training tomorrow i have my house all set up☺️ also did you still put nappies on for their nap?

@Rasma we went with the no reward as in some people give sweets or stickers etc as a reward for it. But did give praise! Just a quick hi 5 every time we went on the potty. We wanted positive reinforcement but didn’t want to give material reward if that makes sense! Good luck for tomorrow!! We put nappies on at nap time and bed time but think we will be getting rid of the nap time ones soon as she’s been dry throughout! Still not dry overnight yet so will keep those nappies for now

@Tanya I have a mi potty. Used it with my eldest. https://www.amazon.co.uk/mi-potty®-Potty-Chair-Worlds-Anti-Bacterial/dp/B07FNY82NW

We did that too she had her potty around for a few weeks now she kept sitting down on it and saying pee pee and poo poo and pointing at it once up. She also kept putting her doll on it and saying pee pee, but now she is getting all worked up because she slipped and fell down a few times after she has peed I have been putting anti slip socks on to stop her from falling and have been replacing them non stop. Now she is not as scared anymore, but still doesnt always want to sit on the potty and keeps crying once i try to walk her to it. I knew it will be hard but didnt think it will be this hard 🥲

@Rasma we had practiced before we went into full potty training and I had her put her teddy on the potty etc! Also found by putting her potty in toilet when I was in toilet helped as she mimicked me x
