I had the Mirena before I got pregnant, and I can't fault it. It worked wonders for me. I started to have regular periods on it after a few months, but I also did lose a lot of weight, so that may have played a part too. Insertion wasn't painful, just uncomfortable, only like having a smear. I highly recommend it xx
Iām not sure if my experience is applicable to everyone as I had it to try and treat/manage symptoms of PCOS and yes it made my periods lighter and less painfulā¦. But I had no regular cycle. Which didnāt bother me āŗļø However for me it was very painful during insertion, and I couldnāt find anyone to remove it for me once the string that lies outside of the womb caused an erosion/ulcer on my cervix and eventually the whole coil slipped down and out of place so I had to go to a Maternity Assessment Department to see someone to help. I couldnāt get through to my sexual health clinic (tried for 4hrs) so I got a pelvic infection. I just want you to be aware that yes it can help but when it went wrong no one wanted to helpā¦ my GP, Sexual health clinic, urgent care and my local walk in centre all turned me away. Donāt want to scare people but Iām not the one one who has had issues so I thought I would let you know itās not good for everyone š„°

I had the copper coil. Not hormonal so I canāt comment on the side effects but in terms of it being inserted it is not that bad. You might have some cramping for a day or two after but worth it for how long it lasts
