Children’s Hospitals

Hello, my daughter had bronchitis and because she’s so small and it was so bad we had to stay in hospital 10 days on the children’s ward, but I was shocked to find out only breast feeding mums got fed? I am breast feeding so I was allowed the hospitals breakfast lunch and dinner and allowed to ask for food when I wanted, but I found it really unfair that those who didn’t or couldn’t had to bring or source their own food ? Is this in every hospital or just the one I was in (UK) I’m really shocked the poor mum opposite me said she’d spent a fortune in the M&S and has been in 2 weeks ! It’s hard enough looking after sick children without worrying about feeding yourself !

In bradford me and my little one had to stay overnight, we didnt get offered any lunch/dinner either. But for breakfast we both did and got discharged that same day. I onlt stayed one night so maybe thay was it and we didnt really see anyone else getting served any other meals.

Hi, which hospital did this happen in?

I’m a paeds nurse and have worked in several hospitals, they all seem to have the same policy and it must be because the mother needs to ensure she is fed to continue to feed her baby by keeping up her supply. The hospitals just don’t feed everyone which does seem unfair

Agreed its really odd. I didn't know even BF mums got fed as I heard from friends around the world that parents don't get fed on the ward and I heard of charity initiatives to feed them as they often get sick from not eating as they don't want to leave their child or their child asks them not to go but they would have to leave the ward to get food
