Yes go but you need to produce healthcare card from Centrelink to be helped
If you go just know that you have to eat the food the next day or two because they will build mold fast ! Just also know it’s not freshest food obviously but it’s nice to have some stuff
I think food bank experiences vary from state to state— but when I had to go; we went to a parking lot and wait our turn (about an hour) to drive down to the actual food bank, wait in that line for maybe 5-10 mins and they start packing you up with lots of food, and then you thank everyone and drive off. I didn’t need ID or bring any proof of income. Just had my boys with me. Froze a bunch of lunch meat that tasted great. Lots of fruit, salads, awkward cuts of meat that once defrosted were easy enough to make. You have to get a little creative but they’re great.
I'm in New York State farm country, and they try not to make anyone uncomfortable about it here. The theory is that we all need extra help sometimes. I've never seen someone be asked for ID or income proof here, just a head count. They also don't mind if families use multiple pantries/giveaways. Just remember the pantries in the future if you have the means to give back.
Nearby churches have it monthly sometimes. 🧡 they want families to show up! So kind!
For sure, check one out in your area and see how you like it. There is absolutely no shame in it. Most of the time you don't have to explain much, I'd say take an ID just to be safe and some grocery bags. Families from all walks of life join food banks.
