It’s whatever you feel comfortable with and how your baby is coping. We did purées until 8 months and now at 9 months he’s on a mixture of both, but I’ve been very nervous of choking and he also still has the tongue thrust reflex so struggles to take as much in with finger foods. It’s like with everything, some babies take to it better than others, some prefer purées and some prefer finger foods
@Harriet that’s what I’m worried about that he’s choking but I do want to give it a try see how it goes, maybe to do mix of puree and other occasions blw
We started with melty puffs as it gave me confidence watching how he manages with those, so they’re a good starting point if you’re nervous. Toast is surprisingly ok as he just sucks it down but with his tongue thrust reflex he pushes a lot of the finger foods straight out anyway. We’re doing puree with some finger foods on the side and have found that offers the best of both worlds
It’s what your most comfortable with! I would recommend that you continue puree at a minimum of 2 weeks straight before transitioning just so your baby can get the concept of spoon feeding & change up with his digestive system. It’s their first time digesting something other than milk so you want to take baby steps when it comes to transitioning them to foods
You can start straight away, my baby never had purées at all x
