@Olivia thank you for sharing! Ah it’s just so hard to know where to go 🤦🏼♀️. I feel like it’s all luck of the draw as well because I’ve had a couple of friends who had great experiences at Chelsea and then mine was awful. I think it’s just luck who is on shift at the time and the staff shortages issues seem to be everywhere so seems not much can be done about that. I was denied pain relief at Chelsea.They claimed I didn’t ask for an epidural when I was screaming for one the entire 6 hours I was there! They gave me gas and air but it did nothing for me so stopped using it so did it all without pain relief.
I think you’re right - it really is just luck of the draw with most hospitals unfortunately😕 I’ve heard Epsom hospital is really good for maternity but maybe a bit far out for you? Even some of the midwives I chatted to said they were going there as it’s much better. Awful they didn’t provide you any pain relief - so sorry you experienced that! If you do decide to go kingston, it’s not that bad all things considering, it’s just my experience in the aftercare which hopefully you won’t need too much of with an elective c-section! 🤗
I had my lil boy back in June 2023 at Kingston and I can not fault the care and support I got. It was absolutely amazing. I ended up having to having to have a C-section in between elective and emergency as I didn’t realise I went into labour I was 3 weeks early, and I would do it again in a heartbeat I stayed in hospital for 5 days and every single midwife was lovely,kind and caring. I literally didn’t want to leave.
I just had my girl on the 28th and I must say they were absolutely amazing! I had my first there during covid and they were awful(left us in a room after being induced no one checked on us for hours and we was forgotten meals 4 times) but this time round I can’t fault them at all. I had complications after birth and haemorrhage badly loosing 3 liters of blood, lost consciousness and passed huge blood clots the size of baby’s head, had emergency surgery to remove clots from my uterus and 3 blood transfusion. The care was absolutely outstanding. When my midwife pressed the emergency button within 30 seconds I was surrounded by drs who all took action straight away were professional and caring. My midwife and student midwife were amazing getting my through the labour with just gas and air. I honestly can’t fault the care I received at all, I’m still being seen by the midwife’s untill my iron levels return to normal as severely anemic at the moment. I’m glad they didnt discharge me yet
To add- when I got to the hospital I was 6cm and contractions were in full swing they were quick to examine me and get gas and air while they got the birth centre room ready which was ready within 10 mins. All the staff were so lovely and made such a difference to what was otherwise quite a traumatic birth once my girl was born.
@Mia thank you so much for sharing! Sounds like you had a really dramatic second birth but I’m so glad you felt looked after and that the staff were kind and caring to you. That’s my biggest thing that I want understanding and caring staff because I didn’t have that at all at C&W.
@Leah that’s so reassuring to hear that even though you were there for 5 days every single midwife that looked after you was kind and looked after you!
Not sure if this is something you would consider but Kingston hospital does have one of the best Homebirth teams in the country and you can even just have a call with them to talk to them about your option with the team. I had my Homebirth with the team at st. George’s and can highly recommend a Homebirth especially after that experience you unfortunately had. Like you, I also had my first baby at CW and wasn’t too pleased with the aftercare. I was re admitted to hospital a few days after getting home and was taken to Kingston. The care I received at Kingston was phenomenal so I’ve opted to have my second baby at Kingston!
Have you tried looking at West Middlesex? They’re under the same trust as CW and have been rated ‘outstanding’ compared to CW which is rated as ‘good’. I’ve recently transferred my care to West Middlesex at 37/38 weeks 😅
Hey! I had my LG in kingston back in April. L&D ward was brilliant - I was having contractions for 15 hrs and the care was phenomenal, the only downside was it took AGES to get pain relief as low staffed but maybe bcos it was the weekend? I unfortunately ended up in emergency c-section, the doctors were so amazing during. The post natal was ok - not amazing but again it was low staffed throughout the week so they’d sometimes forget painkillers, antibiotics etc. i would have to remind. I was back in a 2nd time due to infection and the care in post natal LACKED big time. Once my sepsis symptoms were under control, the consultants just didn’t bother. However there were some incredible PN midwife’s who really got me through mentally as-well as physically. I think it’ll be a great experience if you’re going for elective c-section. (My friend who also had baby in kingston c-section had a wonderful experience and healed fine) Funnily enough I was thinking of going Chelsea for my next!
