Elective at Kingston Hospital

Hi ladies, Has anyone had an elective c section at Kingston Hospital recently? How was your experience? Were the staff empathetic/kind? I had a really traumatic vaginal birth with my first baby in May 2022 and I’m already anxious about giving birth even though it’s extremely early and still ages away. At the moment, I’m leaning towards an elective c section due to the mental and physical trauma of my vaginal birth so if anyone has had one at Kingston I would love to hear about that. The only thing that is really worrying me is the fact that I will have a 3 year old who is very cuddly and affectionate and I worry I won’t be able to be as physical with her (pick up/carry etc). How did people find recovering with a toddler at home? I’m also a bigger lady U.K. size 16/18 and I know that can make recovery harder as well. Both positive and negative stories welcome!

Can't help you with the hospital but I had a 18 month old at home while I had my second baby and second section. Cuddles were fine but give yourself time to recover before picking them up. Don't over do it. I overdid it and that's most probably why my section reopened and got infected. I'm on the bigger side as well. Try and air the section as much as possible as well. If you suspect it's open or infected trust your gut on it. My GP told me it wasn't infected and I was sent hospital 3 days later with an infection

I had an elective at Kingston in August. My first was a vaginal birth again at Kingston. Happy to talk about it more, feel free to send me a message if you want!

if you end up getting a c section, be easy on yourself. IMO in the hospital don’t hesitate to ask for higher pain meds— i wish i did. they gave me higher meds when i got discharged. they worked so well i wish i was given them sooner to feel better.

I haven’t had it yet, but I have booked an elective section due to the same reasons. I will also have a 2 year old at home when I deliver next month. Honestly I am so worried about how I am going to cope 😬 but Id rather have surgery than go through what I went through the first time. I am delivering at St Georges Hospital
