Autism signs
Sorry for the long post. Here’s what my 20 mo’s like:
-He hasn’t done any of the common gestures, but he does grab someone’s hand toward what he can’t reach or something he knows he’s not allowed to touch.
-He does babble a lot and we think that some are word-like.
-He just recently started responding to his name, he used to side glare or not respond at all, and the times he used to respond could have been for the sound only.
-He’s an extremely picky eater, can smell eggs and won’t touch it no matter how hidden (pancakes included).
-He uses a spoon sometimes and can eat quite well if he likes the food, has a big appetite.
-He does flap hands but it doesn’t happen every day, and not even every time he’s excited.
-He understands no, and come here, and give that to me, but doesn’t always does them.
-He will grab anything he finds interesting in light speed, even in others’ hands.
-He bumps his head to the wall when extremely bored, and shook his head left and right when he was eating maybe 3-4 times so far. His tantrums are not at all bad, and never actually last more than seconds.
-He’s an extremely active kid, but is generally well-behaved even when out.
-His eye contact isn’t great, not as I want it to be, but he does contact a lot.
This is all so confusing, and I don’t know what to think. My husband thinks he’s doing ok and is just going through lack of some discipline (because he doesn’t always listen), picky eating and speech delay as we are bi-lingual. Honestly, these really are the only 3 red flags, because amongst other kids I see no difference.
I feel it’s important to note that when at 10 months, he did say mama and baba once, and did eat eggs easily, and I think I may be responsible for the regressions, as we moved cities and I was having a tough time, I got lazy with solid food and gave him lots of screen time, he also grew an attachment to formula that’s thankfully not as bad anymore. His eating is improving and the babbling is starting to sound like words.
Please tell me everything you think.
