I had an elective c-section with my first due to baby measuring big and have opted for one again this time for the same reason! I can honestly say the whole planned c-section experience was so calming, I felt so relaxed! Only thing I was scared about was the spinal block but I had my husband there holding my hand and within a few minutes I was numb from the waist down. The recovery at home wasn't easy but I found that moving about as much as possible from the very beginning helped. I am plus sized too and have an overhang, my scar did get infected once but you just need to keep on top of cleaning the scar area even more due to the overhang and let it air dry, lie down, lift up the flab and let the scar breathe! Go with whatever you feel most comfortable with, the most important thing is that baby enters this world safely and healthy! Xx
Recovery time won't be no different due to you're size. It's more how you handle pain. They do different dressing for plus size people. I'll be honest the first few days of a section are rough and meds take the edge off but by the end of it it's not the pain you remember from the section it's those bleeding fragmin injections.
@Sam I have had the injections but because I delivered via forceps and its true you do remember them 😁
@Maria I'm contemplating an elective with this one due tot he anxiety of how my first birth went and m the feeling of disappointment if I end up going the same way again and ending up in another section. Signing up for an elective let's me have the control from the start and it's making me wince thinking about those little jabs everyday. They hurt more and more eaxh day lol
I’ve got an elective c-section tomorrow. I’ve heard only positive things about elective ones, being very calm etc. The ‘negative’ stories are generally from those which are emergency ones, where mum has been in labour for hours and is already tired and baby is tired etc.
This is purely personal opinion, but I have always said with my first and with this baby, if there were any issues that meant I couldn't go into spontaneous labour, I would rather have a section than an induction. Don't get me wrong, some people have lovely inductions, but such a hihh number end in sections anyway, I'd personally rather be in control of having it and being able to plan a really beautiful section (requesting low lightening, music, having the baby come out slowly rather than it being rushed, seeing if you can take baby out yourself). I think you can also prepare some additional support for after birth knowing you'll perhaps be in recovery for a little longer. I'd really reccomend looking at The Naked Doula on instagram as she has some great info on all things birth related x
@Sam i have chosen that and even though all doctors and midwives are saying that recovery is longer I just can’t imagine going through labour again 😵💫 so I am hoping my body will be able to recover quickly
@Maria people i know that jave had electives have said how much calmer and quicker they healed Probably because they weren't so exhausted from labor.
I’m in the same situation! I’ve been told they’re going to likely induce me at 36 weeks due to baby not growing as much as she should and my blood flow from placenta has slowed down. Got to have another 2 scans and then they are going to make a plan. I am more gutted than anything because I really hoped after a difficult pregnancy I would have a nice natural birth. I have been so against induction and wondering if a c section would be better and safer but the more I read the more I don’t know which would be better. I have a midwife appointment on Thursday so hoping I’ll feel more better after speaking with her about everything. I hope you’re doing ok 🫶🏼 it’s a scary time especially when all we want is our babies to be here safe and sound xxx
